Worth a re-read – Sean’s BRILLIANT thread re: Stop letting your conscious mind get in your way; stop analyzing your way out of longer runs

While searching other matters I just found this remarkable gem from early 2011 – an outstanding thread that discusses Sean’s techniques for learning to leverage your subconscious mind when practicing/competing, and keeping your conscious mind from getting in the way.

Upon reading it, I felt that Sean really speaks my language with regard to pool being essentially a right-brain activity -- with a truly fundamental & productive subconscious flow if you learn how to let it happen. I definitely want to pass it on to more recent AZB-ers or for any regulars to re-appreciate (and wisely incorporate) such well-expressed insights and valuable advice.

I think I just moved up by 2 balls by reading that post...

Very nicely put. I think many other readers will benefit from reading Sean’s experience-based wisdom on handling this important “mental aspect of the game” factor that was, IMHO, never more fully and clearly explained than he did within the cited January 2011 thread.

His views comport perfectly with a reply the tenor Placido Domingo once gave to an interviewer who asked Placido how he managed to separately become not only a world-class opera singer, but also a high-level amateur tennis player.

Domingo replied: “My approach to these two challenges was the same -- learn the technique, then get yourself out of the way.”

Many, many thanks for the feedback

Thank you for the kind words, and for bumping this thread, arnaldo! It is feedback like this that makes contributing to AZB all worthwhile. The notion that I helped someone -- even just a single person -- makes my day.

It's interesting that I used the same stream-of-subconscious technique to compose that thread about getting into the subconscious in the first place. In other words, when I get a head of steam going when I'm writing, it just flows. No deliberating, no pausing, nothing of the sort. I think it came out great, and precisely details what is needed to tap into one's own new frontier of effortless play.

Again, thanks for the kind words, and I hope this continues to help people!
