The groups were narrowed down to 2 groups and the best player from each of those groups played for the title?
Theoretically it could come down to two players who hadn't had to face each other at any other time in the tournament. As it is though the finals will be between two players who will definitely have to play each other in the last group. Could be anti-climatic on some level. Then again, it could be quite a revenge story for the one who lost in the group stage.
