Wow I am Shocked

I borrowed a video from a friend that had the 1993 Team Phillipines vs Team Hawaii on it and just got through watching it. I don't know if any of you have seen this, or much less even remember it, but it was a televised event that took place at the Bicycle casino in LA. There were 5 players on each team, the Filipinos had Efren, Bustamante, Parica, Luat, and Andam. Team Hawaii had a 22 year old Rodney Morris and Hawaiin Brian, and three more players that I have never seen or heard of. I am AMAZED at how bad everyone was playing. When I say bad, I mean really, really bad. I'm talking pool played at like B- level or worse. They didn't play scotch, but rather run out, and I can completely understand that with 4 other people on your team your turn doesn't come up often so it's hard to stay warm, but I just didn't know that Efren or any of the world class players featured could play so bad. Picture this- not ONE full rack of 9-ball was ran, the high run of the entire match was 7 balls I believe, and it happened once. Aside from everyone hooking themselves and getting badly out of line on the second or third ball, what I found the most shocking was how badly everyone, including Efren, missed some relatively simple shots. People were missing cuts literally by 1 diamond. Rodney came the closest to running out a rack from the break, and he had a 4 foot straight in shot on the 9 to the corner, and somehow managed to cut it into the rail missing the pocket by about 5 inches. Luat did the same thing on the 9, as did Hawaiin Brian, and Parica missed a ridiculously easy 9 ball by a VERY large margin. The 3 no-name players on team Hawaii obviously played the worst out of everyone, they were missing 3 and 4 ball outs with ball in hand on the first ball! There was some laughing and jokes but every single player was visibly embarassed from playing so bad, even Efren. Bustamante played the best out of everyone, because although he was unable to run out a wide open rack with an easy shot on the lowball, he would at least play a great safety after getting out of line.

Team Phillipines won by a score of 8-6, and I must say that after watching the whole thing I feel alot better about my game, because in all honesty in most of the racks everyone played as bad as I do on a bad day!! I am just shocked that these guys are THAT human lol. It's quite entertaining to watch if you don't mind some horrible, horrible pool.

i know what you mean.. i guess even the awesome guys have down-and-out days like the rest of us. though hampered by his health problems, i still enjoy watching hawaiian brian play. his knowledge and cunning is.. well, refreshing. we need to get a pro tournament or something down here at hawaiian brians.. that would be cool

I heard he was one hell of a player when he was in his prime. My friend went to school in Oahu for a semester and he stopped by Hawaiin Brian's a few times, he said there are a ton of really young players that play pretty strong. Does Brian give lessons often?
