On the Matchroom Sport website for the WPC they have the rankings for the most successful player in the history of the World Pool Championships.

Poolbum, what are the criteria for these rankings? Would it be number of tournaments won? Amount of prize money won? Or maybe just most high finishes in WPC tournaments?

Points were awarded for high finishes – 4 for winner, 3 for runner-up, 2 for semi-finals, 1 for quarter-final.
 
i think they should also maybe consider number of wpc appearances or tournaments played and sort of average it out a bit. I think this would give alex pagulayan a higher ranking considering he's participated in fewer wpc tournaments than, say, earl strickland.....

But Earl has won it 3 times
 
you're right, of course. but he's had more attempts, too.... actually, i meant to write johnny archer instead of strickland. oh well, forget what i said then....

There was a news that prior to the start of 2002 WPC, a ranking pool man bet a huge sum on Earl all the way to capture the championship. And he did.

It did not say how much was the bet or the winnings, all it say was the bet was made 14 days? before the start of the tournament. I rememer reading on the internet or was it on paper. But I forgotten about it until Earl won.That guy must be a lucky man.
