WTB: Cheap Shaft

Hello, first time poster. I bought this cue recently off ebay, and the shaft was insanely warped. It wouldn't just wobble, it would thump. Just looking at the cue, you could tell it is crooked. I emailed the seller, but he wouldn't respond. So no refund I guess. Anyways, when I brought it to a local pool shop, he fed me some (I think it's bullshit) about how I could not just throw on a shaft, I'd have to have it custom made for it to fit...So yeah, I'm not exactly sure what joint this is but I have been told it is a 5/16X18 (piloted? I don't know). I was just wondering if you guys have any shaft that would fit this (it doesn't even have to be perfectly straight, or clean or whatever, just something that works), then let me know because I would be interested in buying it. Just keep in mind, I am looking for something pretty cheap, just something that I can throw on and not feel like I got hustled out of my money for buying the cue. Sorry for the long post, if you read it all and think you have something that suits me, send me a PM (I check azbilliards more than once a day) or send me an email at aasdfa@gmail.com. THANKS!

Is 30 dollars the least I can spend? The cue I purchased was a cheap cue (because it was used), so I don't want to spend equal value on a shaft. Anyways, I appreciate the input, also what are the drawbacks of a cheap shaft? Thanks.

That might fit the bill...cheap and don't worry if the shaft is piloted or not, to me it really does not matter. If it is tight, then it will be fine. A piloted gives a more solid joint, but I can't tell the difference. This is just a cheap solution to your problem.

Yes!!

$30 is pretty much the lowest price you will see for a brand new shaft...

I actually don't need a new shaft. Just one that will work decently, and that is semi-smooth. Thanks.

The seller said that he didn't guarantee the straightness of the cue (I should have taken this as a sign, but he said that in all his previous auctions and they left him positives). But even if he said that, the cue was SO CROOKED, that even looking at it, you could tell it wasnt straight. Also, if placed on a table and pushed, it looks like its climbing a hill (a 1 centimeter hill). What do you suggest I do, Jack? Thanks.

There's an old saying: "You get what you pay for."

I'm not suggesting that everyone needs to spend $500 or $1000 on a cue, but realisticly what do you expect for $30? I have hit balls with "Walmart special" cues, and with most of them the hit is so bad I'd rather use a house cue. The hit consistancy you gain from having your own cue is huge, but if it's a consistantly bad hit, are you really gaining anything?

As a rule of thumb, if you can buy a whole new cue for less than it would cost to have the tip replaced, it's probably not a great stick.

My suggestion would be to cut your losses and start over. When my wife was just starting out and needed (or more accurately, "I decided she needed") her own cue, I bought her a bottom of the line Players cue from a local pool hall. It ran $50 with a cheapy case. It isn't a great cue, but it's solid and it was good enough for her as a new player. She has a different cue now, and we passed the Players on to our 10 year old son who seriously abuses it, but it still hasn't fallen apart after a year in each of their hands.

Even if it cost you $70 or $75, IMO it would be worth the extra cash. First of all, you get to "see" what you're buying. Also, it's a better product. And most importantly, if you have a problem with it, you have somewhere to go to complain.

My 2 cents

check out cuesight.com you can get a sterling sneaky pete for $50 bucks!!! and they are good cues!! You can get a case to go with with for like $20 so there you go! Best to just take the previous advise and cut you loses and buy a new decent cue!

I am doing just that. I am purchasing a Fury SP. Also, I wasn't expecting someone to give a shaft, I just was trying to see if anyone had one used in the 15-20 range, since brand new is around 30 (for a bad one that is). Anyways, thanks for all the advice (or criticism lol) and I can't wait till my new cue arrives.
