Cue design & specifications (cue wt, cue joint, shaft sizes, etc.) are more important than the cue-maker. I also want to acknowledge that my Budget B may be economically unfeasible. Note: A 3rd party escrow agent might be required for mutual protection.

ONLY ONE (1) BUDGET WILL GET USED ( A or B)

Cue Budget (A): $2,500- $2800

Richard Black
Bill Stroud
Verl Horn
James White
Bob Runde (No Schons)

Randy Mobley

Cue Budget (B): $1,000 higher than "A"

Joel Hercek
Ed Prewitt
Dennis Searing
Pete Tascarella
Black Boar
Ginacue
John Showman
Danny Tibbits.

Cue Specs: 18.25 -18.75 ozs.
Ivory Joint (Flat or Piloted)
Ivory Ferrules (1" length)
Two (2) 12.75 -13mm shafts (original & straight - no taper lift or roll)
Cortland or Irish Linen (Leather considered but no wrap-less cues)

Cue Design: 4 - 6 Points (Ebony) & 4 Veneers ("sharp" points & veneers)
Level 4 or Level 5 design (Ivory or MOP inlays or combination)
BEM Forearm & Ebony Butt Sleeve w/ Rubber Bumper

I can be contacted by PM, thread posts, bavafongoul@yahoo.com or telephone (559) 977-6944 (PST Zone).
I am requesting any discussions ultimately take place in a confidential, private manner rather than by posting /exchanging messages on this thread.
However, posting cue photos and your asking price on this thread is perfectly fine since this helps sellers promote & advertise their cues on the Forum.
Besides, what AZer doesn't enjoy seeing cue photos and cue prices........it's interesting, entertaining, informative and very educational about cue-makers &cue values.

Try TommyT

He has a Shownam and a Tibbitts for sale. The Showman is a gamblet I think and the Tibbetts is a hoppe.
Nick :)

Serdula....You are the Best!

Nick,

Thank you for the referral.

All PMs replied to as of 4:55PM (PST).

Note: The ivory joint (flat or piloted) is a prerequisite for any cues offered.
Several steel jointed cue have been proffered to me and despite that the cue-maker
was correct, I must emphasize that "only" ivory joint cues will be considered. .

Not Going So Good

Well, not that anyone is interested but this thread has produced zero results. For many months I've tried to find a cue made by one of these cue-makers, A or B List, that falls within my cue specs. I didn't anticipate that finding a cue would have become so difficult and frustrating. I don't think my budget was unrealistic but never had the opportunity to find out because there first has to be a cue to discuss purchasing.

I did find one cue on my own thru AZ. It looks pretty appealing but I'd still be settling on some of the specs. Last year, another popular AZer urged me to have the cue built exactly as I wanted it. But I was stubborn and really believed I could locate a cue from at least 1 of the 17 cue-makers on my list. Well, I have reconsidered his advice and so that's what I'm going to do. I want to thank and acknowledge my appreciation to Bill Grassley at Cornerstone Cues, Classic Cues, Cue Addicts, Superior Cues, Recollection Cues, New 2 You Q's and PC Cues for their efforts to assist me. And I have to salute Dean Campbell for indulging my procrastination about having a cue built. Gulp........gotta admit that I was completely wrong....Yup......and Deano was right......Yup, Yup. And in case any reader is unaware, double Yups are equivalent to holding both thumbs up.

Well, I haven't completely abandoned all hope of owning a cue by one of the cue-makers on my list but my list is going to become a lot shorter. Now that I've decided to have a cue built, I'm not in a hurry to own a cue from any of the cue-makers on my list. I'm going to come up with the top dozen (12) cue-makers I'd like to own. I'll remain on the lookout for just such a cue and if it comes along next month or next year that's fine. I realize finding the cue will take time and undoubtedly cost a lot but that's okay. Finding the right cue is sort of like fishing.........I keep find myself keep going back even when I didn't catch any fish the last time.

Thanks Again To Everyone,

Matt B.

Its funny, hang on to your cash and just sit back and wait. As soon as your not looking they will pop up left and right.. I am going to Vegas in August for the Apa , and now I have some money set aside for the trip, 4 cues came up for sale at deals that I can't pass up on, that I really want but can't buy them because I need the money.. It really sucks! So just hang in there .. Cues that fall in your spec list can come put of nowhere at any time!

You're Right

Chris,

You couldn't be more correct. I'm moving forward with the build anyway because I've designed the cue's veneers & inlays, and of course the specs, and it will prove interesting to see how my design turns out. It will either turn out magnificently or just mediocre. Naturally, I am rooting hard for the former and not the latter.

Back to your point, I was just contacted....after my latest updated post....by a cue owner I was discussing a purchase two years ago. The cue's owner is a great guy to work with but the timing wasn't right for either of us. He hung onto his cue and so I wound up buying my Scruggs & Mottey cues instead which would not have happened if I had purchased his cue.

In hindsight, I really have zero (0) regrets about not buying his cue because of how things ultimately turned out and I now own two truly magnificent cues that both play phenomenal. Anyway, this very same cue owner contacted me today asking if I might be still interested and that coincides exactly with what you wrote. Of course, I'm going to check out his cue again because the cue-maker is on my list and I was really impressed with his cue the last time. The timing just wasn't right the last time for either of us.

Oh well, the stock market looks like it's going to be a financially robust summer and if need be, I'll siphon off some of the gains. My IRA has incredibly soared in value over the past 4 years years so perhaps it's time to siphon off some of the gains for pool artifacts.. My accountant is checking on the permissibility of buying collectible pool cues through my IRA. He's told me when the cue-maker is deceased or retired, it's easier to justify the purchase as a IRA investment versus when the cue-maker is still active. People do this with numismatic coin investments, art and paintings so why not pool cues. He thinks there's wiggle room in the IRS code/regulations, however, my new cue build or the cue I'm referring to, would not qualify since both cue-makers are still actively building cues.

Chris, you called it right.......hours after I posted about having a cue built, Gary contacted me about his cue and we haven't communicated about his cue for a long time. Wham......just like that....exactly as you predicted. Life sure is funny and totally unpredictable.

Chris....That JMW Cue is Top Shelf

You nailed it with that JMW cue in terms of handsome looks. But the cue butt weighs >16 ozs and I need a cue butt coming in around 14..5 ozs or lighter if I hope to get a cue weighing around 18.5 ozs. The Diamond has another JMW cue that has a lighter cue butt weight (< 15ozs). It's a good looking cue just like about everything I've seen from Diamond, Have you seen the Dennis Searing's personal player he has for sale?

Diamond deals with really handsome cues IMO. The two of us have tried discussing a cue purchase over the last week or so without much success. In fact, that was the reason I wrote the sale thread Saturday so I could try shaking the bushes one last time to see if any cues fell from the branches.......yaddy yaddy yaddy yaddy....you know the rest.

In my post earlier today, I wrote there was only the one cue on AZ that I was able to locate. I was referring to the JMW cue I've discussed with The Diamond. I actually had to approach The Diamond about selling his cue after I read a post he made a couple of months ago. He didn't contact me because of my sale thread. It hasn't exactly been that people have been knocking on my door with cue offers. Nonetheless, after Gary contacted me today about his cue I tried buying two years ago, anything seems possible. Things just seem to happen when you least expect it

ChrisOnline Predicted This

Now I'm sure ChrisOnline can see the future.....what'd he just post today.....and right afterwards, a really great Azer unexpectedly contacts me about the very same cue I was unsuccessful in persuading him to sell me two years ago. And now a Danny Tibbits cue pops up...........Hey Chris, you still out there.......is this for real or what........do you have folks stooging for you that are now pulling my leg or is this just too uncanny even for you?

Thank you for the kind offer of taking a look at your Tibbits cue. Even sight unseen, I'm sure it has to be a real honey of a cue. His workmanship deserves to be put on a pedestal it's so superb........Danny and Joel Hercek are two of the finest cue-makers I could hope to own. However, what I posted earlier about being committed to a custom cue build is basically a done deal. I just completed putting together an informational packet for the cue-maker that consists of photos of illustrative cue designs, my detailed specifications, even a hand drawn rendition of what I have in mind. My down payment and the packet will be in the mail before the 4th of July holiday.

Right now I'm cool with having a cue built and sitting tight. Besides, I still have to confirm my cue's final cost and so essentially I'm still flying blind. And I'm sure the cue design I have in mind will be a far cry from being something akin to a cake walk. So I really need to learn a little more about what this custom build will run me before I invest in a highly collectible cue like you own.

Thank you very much for your posted offer.
