Wife has been wanting a vacation at a nice beach. I have never been to florida. I do know they have tons of golf, which I like, and tons of pool and 3C, which I like. I hate beaches but don't mind looking at an ocean while drinking or playing golf. So, since I know little about the different areas in the state and just a little about various resorts, toss some ideas out for a possible warm weather vacation spot. Criteria:

1. Nice resort/hotel. We will stay in nice small boutique hotels if they have amenities, etc.... We won't be staying in a Motel 6. We don't necessarily need the travel channel's $2500/night suite, but we aren't staying downmarket.

2. Spa beach shopping activities for wife.

3. Golf. The better the better. Can't get on seminole though, huh?

4. Last on the list would be in an area with good pool and billiards.

Ideas and suggestions appreciated.

Might want to try Tampa Bay area

I spent two years in St. Petersburg, 10 miles from Tampa, and can tell you that the beaches are great and so is the golf. There is plenty for your wife to do in St. Pete or Clearwater, I would recommend something in Clearwater Beach or St. Pete Beach, I didn't play pool when I lived there, but I know of some pool halls in Tampa and Clearwater that do have good action and players there.
If you are a baseball fan the Yankees play spring training in Tampa, the Devil Rays are in St. Pete, and the Philliies are in Clearwater, the Blue Jays and Pirates also play within 20 miles of the area.

Tampa/Clearwater/St.Pete is alright (I've been living here for 17 years, now), but at least look into Naples,FL. The place Grady and the Seminole Tribe held the Senior's Tournament last year (Sept.?) was really nice. I 'think' it was called the Naples Beach Club Resort and Golf Course (or something close to that). If Grady reads this thread, he can give exact particulars. I mean, the hotel is right ON the Gulf beach, with rooms, restaurant and a Tiki bar about 20' from the water.
There's a poolroom with action about 10 minutes away... Doug (There ARE more things to do in the Clearwater-St.Pete area, but you didn't inquire about MORE things to do)..

I have a 2nd home in Clearwater, everything they say about it is true, It is a wonderful spot. I also spend a lot of time in Ft Meyers and Key West, both are must stops when you come down. I've been living in Florida off and on since 1973, like to winter there. I love to dive and shell.
