I am a younger player.. 18 lol... just looking for some tips from more experienced players on where to start in making a career out of pool... the competition where i live and in near by states has dimished so i feel im ready to get out into the world of pool... any tips??? Thanks:)

AS Grady said{ to make a pool player, quit wour job, divorce your wife. then hit a million ball in practice, you get the consept, of pro pool!!!!!!!

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and more PRACTICE! It's a crazy (pool)world out there, watch your back! Find someone who has been around the pool scene for a while, someone who has traveled (and I don't mean across town)around and has stories to tell and can play pool as well as he talks. Listen to him/her, play better players, learn from your mistakes and the mistakes of others. Play smart, don't play to run the rack every time you step up to the table, be patient, work on one step at a time. Don't try to master every concept of shooting, just focus on the fundamentals of pool. And once again....PRACTICE, PRACTICE and more PRACTICE!!!

My advice to you, not necessarily in this order is:

Be cool, stay in school
Take up golf or tennis
Save your money and open a pool hall
Open an online billiards supply store
Learn how to recover tables and become a table mechanic
Learn how to repair cues and become a cue mechanic
Learn how to make cues
Get a job selling cues
Start operating a league
Practice every day until your eyes feel like they are going to fall out of your head, and then practice until you can beat every good player within 50 miles of your home that aren't pros, get a sex change and join the Womens tour.

I am not trying to discourage you, but until you can play even with Efren, Bustamante, Earl and Archer, you will starve trying to make a living in mens pool. And even if you get that good, you would have to win 50-70 percent of the tournaments a year just to make a modest living.

Hi,

Well heres how i see it.... someone has to play professionally when these guys r gone... right???... efren i dare say has lotsa years left in him.. but still hes 3 times older than me lol... archer is double my age.. bustamante is as well.... i mean sum1 has to take over when they r done???? is that right?

That is true....if you have scratch to eat between all those wins...then I say go for it. If you are relying on it to pay your way....then its a long, hard road. Just go in with your eyes open.

Good luck to you and I hope to see your name up in lights someday!!

HI

Thanks Chucklez.. support really helps younger players like myself.. it is greatly aprecciated

Practice 8 hours a day. Get some gamble and some heart. Don't be scared to bet it up. The more pressure you play under CONSISTENTLY the better you are going to get. Learn though how to make a good game, and to get the best weight to make the game fair. If you're robbing someone, it will be good for your bankroll but bad for your game, and learn how not to give up too much weight. It takes a lot of time and it will come with experience, but you truly have to love the game. Work a day job for funds, live with your parents for free, drive a paid off car, and spend all your money on playing and gambling at night. It sounds pathetic, but if you love the game and want to be a champion you won't mind. You will have to make sacrifices. Once you have everyone in your area asking you for weight, then move on to the next town, and play in EVERY SINGLE TOURNAMENT you can on a daily basis starting right now, and gamble during and after the tournament. Constant pressure is a must. If you really committed like this, and have some natural ability, you could be ready to take on a big boy in say, oh....10 years. Now you just have to ask yourself..is it worth it?

hey Matt, do you play at Fast Eddies on Fridays or at F.E.s in Fairfax on Sunday nights?
