I've been in here a few days now going over all these table runs, reading posts from various players, and have even gotten a DVD from Pensacola, Florida. I haven't been to the pool room yet this week but I am really excited about going tonight. I have a feeling some good things are going to happen. Things I'm looking at tonight are:

1. Step back and take a good look at everything and try not to get too focused on just one way out.

2. Put more focus on exactly what I want to do before I get down over the shot.

3. Work on my break shots.

4. Get to those clusters in a more timely manner.

5. Try not to make too much noise with my chalk. :D

I'll be surprised if there aren't any differences in my runs tonight. I'll try to set up a video camera too so I can take a look at what I did. Depends on if there's an open table next to me or not.

I do want to take a moment to thank everyone here for all the participation in these threads though.

Ok, I played 4 games of straight pool last night with a B-class player. To keep things timely I spot him 25 balls going to 75pts. Anyway, I didn't have any mind boggling runs *BUT* in the 4 games I had 5 runs of 25+....didn't break the 30 mark. As usual a really comfortable run got started and then I got screwed on the break. One of them really disappointed me because I had a semi decent shot and got down and shot it too fast and hit the tit of the side pocket. I really need to slow down. No huge runs but there was definitely more consistency *AND* I was seeing that triangle at the end of every rack.

I notice that clusters are still a problem for me. Especially against a lower level player that picks off all the balls, including any balls that are sitting perfect to break up a cluster. When he gets to where he has nothing he leaves me with a clump of balls in the middle of the table. Hehe! We're really good friends though and these are friendly games so I interrupt him when I see a really bad move coming and give him some advice about it. Luckily for me he really likes straight pool, unusual for Japanese people, so he appreciates the advice. If he didn't I wouldn't bother him. Anyway, I told him last night that I want to bring the camera the next time we play so we can sit back and see exactly what we're doing. Hindsight, you know.

Overall, yes, I saw some improvement *and* I recognized more areas that need work on, I guess that's improvement too. Today is Saturday and you know I'll be in the pool room again. Try it again tonight........I better charge the video battery.

Cool man, it's always great to see improvement. I always get a lot more motivated when I can see things getting better.

I finally had a chance to practice some straight pool the other day on my table. This is the first time since lessons about a month ago and watching Johns DVD a few times. While I didn't manage to break my old high of 39, I'm getting into the third rack more consistently now. This is starting with a ball in a good break position. I'm not jumping at the first break ball that I see near a cluster like I used to. Instead I'm trying to clear some of the shooting lanes first and then when I do break the cluster out, most of the time, there is nothing around the balls to tie them back up so it's easier to clean things up. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
