In a friendly game, allowing opponent to rebreak would be customary. In a gambling match, loss of break would be customary. As noted in other threads, though, for tournament or league play, it's best to carry the rules (of the sanctioning organization) with you if you can. The lack of standardization of the rules has often been bemoaned on this forum. Be prepared for the inevitable situations in which the rules have to be referenced.

This was in a blind draw doubles tournament with an 8 on the break pot. If my opponents screw up that bad, I'm getting a chance at the money!

In golf, on the first tee, my friend hits it OB. He says, "I quit this round, let's play a new round." And then he hits his Mulligan and doesn't count the fault. Couldn't the same be said for that break shot?

PS I never play Mulligans and would give up a break shot like that.

PPS I never chase a ball that someone else hit onto the floor....I let the banger chase his own ball.
