I've had my cues retipped by a few different cuemakers, had minor work done, such as rewrapping or shaft tapering/cleaning, etc. The one I always go back to is Joe Porper. I've hit with a couple of his cues, and every one I've hit with, I liked the feel and balance, with good feedback in the hit. I've known Joe for a couple of years, and the guy really put alot of effort in everything he does. One time he put a tip on my cue, it turned out to be defective and it delaminated after using it for a couple of days. I had a tournament the following day before it delaminated, and I went to his shop, and although he was very busy with work, he put aside a few minutes to retip my cue, and he didn't charge me a dime. I tried to pay him and he wouldn't accept it. Sometimes I might hang around at his shop for a while and watch him work. I am amazed at how much he cares about even the tiniest of things.

Since there have been some threads about bad cuemakers, I thought I'd mention a great one. The guy sure is a pleasure to be around, extremely down to earth and he doesn't bullshit around, gets his work done and takes care of his customers.

I've had some unpleasant experiences with a couple of the cue repair guys in my area. Now, if I need a repair or just tips, I try to hold off until I go the the U.S. Open.
Joe Blackburn is one of the many cue repair guys who travel to major events to do repairs. His work is outstanding. I would trust him to do anything with my cues and he is great to talk to also.

Bob Frey is one of the best for cue making and repairs, his cues all hold the value. I've dealt with him for years and never had anything other than great results from him.

Mr. Searing does a excellent job. I dont have to say anything else, just his name.

Mike Webb hands down the best around the NE...Very Honest, very skilled, very professional and a hell of a good guy.....

Up here in Seattle...

Dave Lauer of Emerald City cue Repair is the man. Does great work with attention to every detail. I too had a couple tips delam on me and he retipped me each time, only charing for the newer, more expensive tip. He's kinda sporty on the green too.

The greatest cuemaker of all time is Kevin Carson!!!!

*and you say I have no sense of humor?*

Im gonna gree on Joe Blackburn i used to drive to JOB in nashville just to get my cues worked on by him and that is about a 100 mile drive after him would be my friend who has his own cue lathe and does great work and posts here on the boards from time to time Tommy-D, Next would be Bill Mcdaniel and the only reason i place him last on my list is due to him be ALWAYS busy building cues so getting something repaired from him can take some time but still he does great work.

D.C. Area

Rick and Richard Phillippi get my vote. Excellant work and quick turnaround.
I would have to say they do some of the best leather wraps in the business. Good prices to boot.
Purdman

I've used Kerry Zeiler for all my tip and shaft work for the last 3 years here in Southern California. He is far and away the best cue mechanic I have ever used, although I have to say I'm sure I've not nearly as much experience in different mechanics as others here. (I've only used 4 different ones before Mr. Zeiler.)

He also makes excellent custom cues if you don't happen to want decorative features like points.

Babyface Mike G --- Never had any problems ever with repairs, tips, wraps etc.
Mike Webb...he only put a tip on my cue but he was very nice and quick about it. I came to CT to play in the USAM tournament and on my first warmup shot my tip came flying off. I had a match right away and that
is my only shaft. He was not even 100% setup yet and went ahead and
put the tip on. Nice guy

Mike Johnson of Jensen.....for big repairs I would think of Mike first... I have
seen some of the restorations he has performed and some of the repairs
on really damaged cues and they were great.

Ted Harris ... only dealt with Ted at events but he always works fast and
the work is good.

I go to Ernie at Ginacue since he is right across the street and he is one of the best and it is always an experience. Once I went in and he was pouring liquid gold into a cue, yesterday we talked about diamonds he is using in some cues. Also, yesterday he was rebuilding one of his machines, before he started back into making cues he spent a few years building all of the equipment he would need. He always has great stories, he has great old-time pictures at this shop and he has been around pool forever.

I like GUIDO for shaft work, including resizing, changing taper, tips, ferrules, etc. He's one of the few that does compression rating on tips. He has Morii's broken down to 12 (I think) different hardness. From the joint up, GUIDO is the best.

But if you're in the Mid-South, go to Joe Blackburn. Great work. Great guy.

For major cue repair, wraps, refinishes, etc., Scott at Proficient gets my vote.
Top-notch professional all the way.

Thx-

I have to say Bobby Hunter- He is an absolute perfectionist. His work is always top quality, or he will throw it in the trash. If he puts a tip on, or does some shaft work for you, it's like he's doing his personal cue.
