Considering he was born in the Philippines (born June 25, 1976) but holds dual citizenship...I don't really consider him really a true Canadian. Not to take away from his skill and achievements as a pool player...but truly a Canadian Pool Player as the thread states...I would be reluctant to claim his as the best "Canadian" player.
Canadian law permits dual citizenship....it specifies that you will still be
recognized as a Canadian if you have dual or multiple citizenships.
I feel Canada has 3 world champions at billiards...Cliff Thorburn, Brittany
Bryant, and Alex Pagulayan...and I'm proud of all three.
And the ultimate proof that Alex should be considered Canadian????
Spinning the cue-ball tends to be called 'side' in the UK....
...it tends to be called 'english' in the USA...
...but I don't know of another country in the world but Canada that calls it 'siding'
...and that's what Alex called it in a banking instruction video.
I rest my case
ps
Alex was born in 1978

In my humble opinion I would have to say Danny Hewitt is the best born & raised Canadian 9-ball/10-ball player we have.
Even if he doesn't travel (or compete) as much has he use too (States or even Canadian Championship), I still think he could beat Jason or John in a long set (race to 30/50/60 etc...)
I do believe he may have more victories over world class competition (Archer , Bustamante, Souquet, Deuel etc...) than any of our new generation players.
Finally in my defense, How many Canadians pros have won a US pro tour event?
Does anyone remember his 10-ball tournament victory over Jim Rempe back in 2003?
