People talk about the 78,000,000 for the IP stream and those numbers came from it being on the home page of Ustream. Ustream gets millions of hits to its homepage everyday so those numbers over the week or so that IP was on there transferred over. So did IP get 78,000,000 views, well sort of but true viewer numbers were probably in the tens of thousands I would be guessing.
I think when I did the stream in Mountain View a couple months ago and averaged around 500 viewers coming and going for 5 days, the numbers from the metrics report were around 30,000 unique IPs. We never hit the home page of Ustream and saw the spike that sends your numbers through the roof showing that you have millions of views and flawing the numbers, but for a small time single cam deal the numbers were good. If it were PPV I probably would have had 30, haha, a good deal of pool players are cheap complaining about paying a buck for a bottle of water and that is okay with me because its a hobby/interest not a livelihood thankfully. I do put in way too much time though and spent plenty of money out of pocket on stuff.
I do hope those like TAR and Accu-Stats do make it considering the tens of thousands spent on equipment and everything else. I think Justin starting a TAR fan page on Facebook is a good step in the right direction, but one way we can all help is by sharing the links for live streams via email, Facebook or just bumping the threads on here so new people are exposed and drawn into it. I know there is money to be made off of all the content TAR has, it is all just sitting there in the can and I believe when Justin has a new site built with the on demand it will have new revenue coming in. I feel TAR has came a long way in the past 5 years, from the little webcam or camera to a studio in Vegas.
One thing that really gets me is the lack of sponsorship for the streamers out there and also players too. I see pretty much the same handful of companies like OB, Kamui, Simonis and a few others who support streaming. If you have a company that is pool related and making money or looking to make new money with new customers then it would be a good idea to look into sponsoring streams. Even if your company is an online business you might see some benefit from it depending on the product. When the streams are pulling tens of thousands of viewers legitimately I would say that its better value than advertising in a pool mag or paper especially when the ad is in your face on a stream instead of skimmed over in a paper ad.
