Maybe not new question but why woman not as good as men in certain sports like pool, chess. checkers, horseshoes?
I think Karen Corr's performance at Joss events is proof that a woman can compete with the men. I don't buy the break argument one bit. If you can go the entire set without missing, you're going to win an overwhelming amount of the time no matter who you're playing.
With that said, it doesn't take an anthropologist to tell you that men are more likely to participate in competitive games & sports over women. We can sit here and argue nurture over nature but it's still going to leave us in the same place. More men play pool so you're looking at skewed results. But, don't be mistaken for one moment. Pool is not great athleticism. It doesn't require strength. There is nothing a man can do that a woman can't do.
Well..... men can sure play pocket pool better!

Really Jude?
I do.
Here is why: When you make 2-3 (or more) balls on the break, men are playing 6-7 balls verses 8-9 for women.
Its like Moneyball in baseball, its about facts and numbers. Given players of equal ability, the one that required less balls to be pocketed wins.
It common sense really.

Who on Earth is averaging 2-3 balls on the break? And, where are these facts and numbers you speak of?
barbox players with a magic rack.
I get what you're saying but I don't think that on average that the men are getting that many more balls than the women in on the break. I could be wrong, I don't have the numbers but I doubt anyone is averaging 2 balls per break.
I also don't think that power is the determining factor in a successful break.
Would you be willing to bet that men do not average making more balls on the break than women?
Ken
I'm curious what would be used as the determinant for this. How could you prove that anyone averages 2 balls on the break?

Im betting that men make more balls on the break than women.
Do you want some of that action?
If we need to verify, I would be willing to use Accustats or TV coverage.
