Maybe not new question but why woman not as good as men in certain sports?

I asked a pro about pool and they said in 9-ball, the break is the big difference.

Ok, I understand that the strength may not be the same, but why if is only a matter of strength why are not the women competitive in 1-pocket?

I think it is a matter of numbers.

Ken

That and a hot 23 year old girl who has played for2 years can pose in photos next to a pool table and call herself a pro!!!
How ridiculous would that be if men could get away with this?

Nope, didnt call you a nit....(If you read that and saw yourself as a nit that isnt my fault).

Maybe you should reread what I wrote. Everyone wants to state the exception instead of what I wrote.

Men will consistently make more balls on the break than women. (KEN)

Jude said they may scratch more, and the more I think about it, he may be right.

I didn't say you did.

I understood it fine the first time.

Men will consistently make more balls on the break than women. (KEN)

Actually you said 1-2 more balls.

Jude said they may scratch more, and the more I think about it, he may be right.

I agree he is right, simply due to the fact that there are more male pros playing in an event it stands to reason that they would have more scratches.

Ken....

But to me none of this really proves anything when considering what sex is better. I think on average that men tend to generate more power on their break than women, but I don't see this being necessarily better. Maybe they get more balls on the break and maybe not, I honestly don't know. But in the big picture there is more to the game than just the break when you compare two people.

The facts are that there are more male champions in pool than female champions, so you could say that historically Men have been better players and that would be true.

But I don't think it is a gender based thing, there is nothing in this game that tells me that a man is going to be better simply based on his gender.

Yeah I don't care for that either. If women want to be treated equal in this sport that is not the way to go about it.

I think you're outta your mind if you think men average 2-3(or more) balls per break. What would the "or more" put the average at? 2.75??? - thinking the window is gonna get torn out and thrown away along with the roof

No what I said (or meant) and I think Jude said too was men may scratch more on average than women. That means it doesnt mean because there are more men playing that they scratch more...again a number thing.

For the fourth or fifth time:rolleyes:, I said men ON AVERAGE will make more balls on the break than women and because of this (while not the only reason), men have a huge advantage in 9-ball.

Really Jude?

I do.

Here is why: When you make 2-3 (or more) balls on the break, men are playing 6-7 balls verses 8-9 for women.

Its like Moneyball in baseball, its about facts and numbers. Given players of equal ability, the one that required less balls to be pocketed wins.

It common sense really.

Ken

Maybe I am misunderstanding you, but from your words above I read as saying men make 1-2 more balls on the break more than women.

This simple math stuff is confusing!

Jason -

I never said men average 2-3 or more per break.

I said men average more balls per break than women. If you want to bet they dont let me know.

I have often seen men make 2-3 balls per break (not all the time but often) and I very rarely see a woman make 2-3 balls per break and never seen women consistently make more balls then men.

Reading is fundamental.

I stand behind that statement.

I'm not sure I agree but it would be interesting to see if that's the case or not. Regardless I still wouldn't consider this to prove that one sex is better than the other.

Ok lets think of how many females have been able to compete with decent results versus males pros? I can think of only 4-5 in history.

Evolution is the simple and scientifically plausable answer. Men who are successful in competitive ventures are seen as prefferable mates to females and that has caused a drive in men to "win" that women have less of. Men generally don't look at competitive success as a high priority in potential mates and as such it is not a genetically enhanced thing in females.

Women are less competive at sports for the same reason that male deer grow huge antlers to fight other males with while female deers do not. The male birds with crazy plummage to attract females of the same species who do not have the same elaborate feathers.

Males of every species have competition driven into them by evolution to attract mates, females not nearly so much and not in the same way at all.

exactly!! also the male brain can only do a couple of things at once. a womans brain can do many things at once. with that, the male brains focus on that one or two things is far more enhanced than the female. scientifical fact.

The case for prove who is better is they havent won anything. Hell they havent even threatened to win anything.

Look at the posters at DCC, its an open tournament.

I think solid shortstops beat most if not all of the WPBA players....

The way to prove who is the best, is who wins...

IMO, the best player I have ever seen is Efren. I know he getting older and probably not top now, but if you look at the DCC era, he has dominated.

Maybe he know TOI too....

LOL

Jean is the only one I can think of. I know she played with men because no women at that time could consistently compete with her.

Who do you think the other 3-4 are?

I didnt say men average 2-3 more than the women.

I said men make 2-3 balls on the break (or more).

So you want to bet or nit me to death...

I guess since I've made 7 on the break and I'm sure a woman has made more than 2 on the break.... Guess I'm like you- not sure what you're trying to say.
You've got the wrong guy on the NIT part - I just can't figure out what you're saying??? What is the # you say they are averaging??? Cause it looks like ur saying more than 2.5, in which case the window is WAY OPEN

For the sixth time.

I am saying;

1.) Men will average more balls on the break than women.
2.) Men often make 2-3 balls on the break because they break much harder than women.
3.) Women (because they do not break as hard as men) typically do not make as many balls on the break.
4.) Because of this men have an advantage over women in nine ball because they are getting a spot (more balls made on the break) than women. (You do believe getting a spot gives an advantage to the player right?)

Jude said; (and I am tending to agree)

1.) Men break harder and therefore might scratch more often than women. (I wouldnt bet on this but I think he has a point)

CJ said; (As I understood him)

1.) Allison can beat anyone man or women playing 9-ball.

PS - How many women do you think have made 7 balls on the break?
