I plan to continue again, but I'm addicted in straight pool land trying to run 50. I'm at 27 thus far...
What's your latest high run? Have you come close to your "50" goal yet? If so, you should be able to crush your previous best BU score. I look forward to seeing how much you can improve your BU rating after all of the straight-pool practice you've been getting.

Regards,
Dave

The latest results are below. If you haven't tried the BU playing-ability Exams and pool workout yet, give them a try and please consider posting your results (and videos if available) here, as other AZB users have done. Please also post scores again as you work more with the exams and as your game gets better, so we can see how much people can improve their BU scores and ratings over time.

Good luck,
Dave

I have not had dedicated pool practice for the past month. Went to Denver, then Atl, then Phila, then NY, now back to phila. My home table is in Atl.

I'm still at 27.

While in Phila the local room has a 7' Diamond red table. My theory is straight pool is easier on a smaller table (to which there is plenty of debate from both sides). I want to give it a few days of attempts and see how I do on it compared to my 9' GC.

There are also top straight pool players in this room I want to see if I can get one of them to tell me each shot to shoot how that will improve my performance.

I'll bring my tape measure also and get some table specs for you. The room is a players room full of GC4s with single shims for the casual players, and double and triple shims for the gamblers.

Sounds good.

Just wanted to report Dr. Dave's generosity: Melissa Little held her 9th annual Colorado State Juniors 9-ball tournament Saturday in my home town of Fort Collins at Match Up's. Dr. Dave showed up unannounced to show his support for the juniors and generously donated 3 of his Billiard University DVD complete sets to add to the prize fund. Melissa and the juniors loved it!

Thank you Dr. Generous!

Dave (AKA "the other Dr. Dave"),

Thank you for your kind words.

I very much enjoyed the time with you, Melissa, the parents, and the kids.

The pool world needs a lot more people like all of the folks at that event:
- people like Melissa who is so dedicated to helping the sport and junior players.
- people like you who attend and show support at every pool event in the surrounding area.
- people like the parents who are so supportive of their kids and their involvement in pool.
- people like Mike and Nicole Hellmer (owners of MatchUps) who help host events like this.
- and most importantly, all of the juniors who have so much enthusiasm for the sport. They are truly the future of pool.

Catch you later,
Dave

Thanks! I strongly encourage everybody to attend events like this to show support for the junior players. They appreciate it so much, and their enthusiasm and excitement is contagious.

Anyone that hasn't tried it yet going to give it a try this weekend?
Neil,

Thank you for helping to encourage people. I hope it works.

Do you plan to post a new video and score soon? Have you been able to find time to practice?

One of these days, I hope to post a perfect Masters-level Exam II score and video on my 8' home table. I also hope to post another good Exam I score, where I at least don't miss any of the ball-pocketing shots. I can't imagine ever getting a perfect score on Exam I, but I'd still like to do better.

Catch you later,
Dave

Retirement is like a two-edge sword. I now have all the time I want to play, but can't physically play very long most days.:( Yes, I hope to post another video. I have been working on exam 1. If I can break it up into segments and cheat on the video (would never do it) I could get a 96-98. (haven't done the wagon wheel perfectly yet)
:D Doing it all at once I keep blowing it somewhere along the line! I've got all I need in one sock now, but the sock seems to have a hole in it and parts keep falling out, then when I need them, they don't seem to be there! :(

Maybe I should work on the masters for a while.;)

Exam I can certainly be frustrating. A high score requires lots of skill, lots of focus and concentration, and maybe a little luck (to string together good performances on all of the drills back to back, which is much more difficult than performing well on any one drill individually).

Maybe I should work on the masters for a while.;)
I think that is an excellent idea, to work on Exam II for a while. With enough practice, and with enough attempts at the exam, a perfect score on the Masters-level exam is certainly within reach for a good player, especially on a table with a lower TDF.

Good luck on posting the first perfect Masters-level Exam II score (with video). This is a goal I also hope to achieve soon.

Catch you later,
Dave

Thank you for posting again.

This score is not as good as a previous score you posted. Why do you think?

No partucular reason... I've done the fundamentals drill 4 times and my scores have been 42, 46, 46, 57. (I've only posted a few of the scores here.)

The three Skill exams I've done had scores of 22, 25, 25.

So I don't see anything shocking in the results. Everyone has their best, average, and worst games.

I have seen them before, but I haven't watched them lately.

Also, we are still missing a 10-ball-ghost-rating-drill score for you. Please try to do the drill and post your score when you get a chance.

Thanks,
Dave

You're going to keep missing it until I can get a score that I'm not embarrassed to post. :)

So your best combined score to date (taking the best score for each exam) is 82. I've edited the list (see below) to include this instead of the 71 you posted. Anytime somebody posts an improved score (on either or both exams), I have been updating the list with the current best combined score.

I hope you will reconsider because part of the purpose for this was to see how well the BU rating correlates with the 10-ball-ghost rating.

Regards,
Dave
