Are there any good pool halls in Dumaguete City???

No, not in any american standard.
Why not (that's the real name of a popular a disco hause where many expats congregates) has 2 tables that i know.

There were was one whom many tiradors (hustlers) just around 200 meters away from it although not along the famous boulevard. It has around 6 to 8 tables. I forgot its name by the way..hehehe

I was living there for 4 years and was finally back here in Cebu last July and probably will go to Micronesia (FSM) this December.

But anyway Dumaguete is a nice rustic semi-city place.

Gooooooood morning Manila!!!

Any interesting match-ups to report? Please, don't save us for the details!!

Verna, if you are reading this and want to avoid that the "man in black" from Villar Cup in Cebu will be seen on the tables in Bacolod, make sure that you have made atleast one shirt that has Chris size :p (Perry's size plus two X, so instead of XL it is XXXL :D:D)

as fas as I noticed they are less than 9 ft.
We've been in some outdoor room (under the roof) with three tables, with veeery slow cloth and soft cushions. And a pro who showed us there seemed not influenced by that at all!

I wonder if they left the tables in city's convention centre from last year, hehehe.... They could make up a nice pool hall!

I got a text from Chris earlier today. They arrived Bacolod and were driving around the city in open cars, the mayor welcomed the players and there was a press conference.

The qualifiers started also today, and I know that Jharome Pena didn't make it through to the main event... :(

Fusion is open

I met Buddy, the housepro of Fusion, which I in another post said was closed - according to information given to me.

Never trust second hand info, Buddy told me that Fusion is alive and well, so I guess somebody was just really keen on keeping me from going there:confused:

Next time I will check my sources better;)

Coming to Bacolod

Most of the players arrived in Bacolod Wednesday november 12, a good 1 hours plane trip from Manila.

We were met at the airports by the organizers, and taken to the hotel. After lunch, the city had arranged a parade in open cars for the players - naturally called a Motorrade..

So all the players were standing in the cars, a parade of 15-20 vehicles, escorted by police and driving through red lights through the city.

It was fun and an experience. In my new 200 pesos sunglasses from Cebu airlines, I obviously looked like Chuck Norris, and got my share of the attention.

The Motorrade ended at the new City Convention Center, just finished to the expense of 394 mill pesos. While we were wating outside, Efren was mobbed my a group of policemen who at first looked very serious. It soon became clear that they just wanted ther picture taken together with their hero.

Mayor Bing hosted the press conference, and afterwards we were treated with food and a local dance group performing. The filipinos know how to take care of their guests and create interest around a pool tournament!

I will try to upload some pictures in this thread later

Tournament started

The Bacolod tournament is underway, its 9-ball, race to 11, winners break, single elimination

The field contains of 32 players, including 8 qualifiers. The draw was made completely random, no seeding.

You guys have surely read the reports on the az front page, and will find the results there. I just want to mention that Johann Chua, the 16 year old wonderboy, beat Roberto Gomez in a convincing way. He may be the next big thing from the Philippines.

Unfortunately for Chua, he ran into Efren in the second round - and is now out of the tournament.

There are some ultra strong players here, if I had to pick someone for the win, I would say that Ramil Gallego looks very strong. He also won his second round match today, and is ready for the quarterfinals where he meets Joven Bustamante.

Last 16 is still being played right now, so the other quartefinals are not decided yet.

Thanks for the updates. This is why I like going to the PI. Over there pool is treated like a major sport. And the players are respected as well.

Semi finals almost ready

We are approaching the final day here in Bacolod, and three out of four semifinals are now ready.

In the first quarterfinal Ramil Gallego met Joven Bustamante. Gallego had a very strong start, and took a huge lead. Bustamante made a small comeback, but couldnt get there in the end, and Gallego became the first player to the semis, winning 11-7.

Next quarterfinal was Efren Reyes against the remaining Japanese, Takahashi. The japanese was leading 4-3, committed a mistake on the seven ball. After that he was visiting the table on one push-out and two safeties. Game over, 11-4 Efren.

Third quarterfinal was between two qualifiers, Michael Feliciano and Ronnie N.. Feliciano is an extremely talented, fast and loose player. Feeding on his opponents mistakes like a big hungry shark, he raced away and became the third player into the semis with an 11-1 win.

The fourth QF is being played now, between Gandy Valle and Rodolfo Luat. Luat has previously knocked out both Orcollo and Alcano, and really seems to be back in form.

The semis are Efren vs Gallego, and Feliciano vs Valle/Luat.

There is also a socalled amateur tournament going on. Socalled, since all players not competing in the 32 man main event can play the amateur tournament. The quality is real high, and one of the finalist is Jerry two-fingers. Battery low, got to go

Here is Verna Mariano from Bugsy Promotions and Ish Capperas, the Tournament Director, outside the city hall of Bacolod. The tournament is very well organized, everything is on schedule and the people involved are doing a great job.
