I have a predator 314 shaft and it is 13 yrs old and I find it very hard to even out the ferrule when I work on it because it swells up from the heat and I was wondering if anyone knows how to work on the ferrule without it swelling up. Any help would be greatful, thank you.

Assuming you're using a lathe, slow your speed down some and use H2O.

Friction causes heat, heat expands the ferrule material. When sanding or polishing use fresh sandpaper, not worn out and sand very lightly letting the paper do the work. Same when polishing and burnishing, do it lightly to keep the heat from becoming excessive.
