$1,000 Added GUARANTEED - No Masters - 8 ball - April 25th - Varsity Club Oshkosh, WI

Will be represented there this weekend. I am very optimistic that at least one of us will be in the top finishing spots.

I'm very optimistic that I'll go two and out in the tourney and then donate a little after due to getting in a bad game because I think it's fun to try and outrun the nuts.

Well maybe...

you can matchup with me on the big tables and we can play something cheap.

Pete Heard and Brian Maxwell as well as myself will be there from Milwaukee.

I am geeked about playing. I intend on playing in a tournament on Thursday and Friday as well as the one this weekend in Oshkosh. I may even go down to Cinci next weekend for the event in Fairfield, OH at Michael's Billiards.

I'm sure we can figure out a game. I normally only play on a big table if I'm playing one-pocket or banks, but I'd be willing to try some 9-ball or 10-ball. We can talk about it Saturday. We should stream it and call it "The Best B-Rated Patrick From Wisconsin on AZBilliards Shootout". LOL!

If the event in Cinci you're thinking about going to is the GSBT event, you'll love it. I played in an event of theirs when I was in Knoxville a couple summers ago and they are really well run and guaranteed money is always nice. I wish I could go down there.

What is Pete rated now-a-days? I use to play with him about 7 or 8 years ago when I lived on the East Side in Milwaukee. Back in the cheap sets days of Landmark Lanes. Do people still play there?

Also, any tournaments in May in Wisco?

Pete is rated as a double-A player by the Wisconsin BCA. Landmark Lanes really cracks down on gambling and you will be barred if they see it. Apart from that Scaffidi's is the place to play and gamble. They have free pool everyday until 7pm as well. That is the East side pool spot these days.

Non-Masters events

Well I am going to tell you right now... Doesnt matter that it is a non-masters event. There are a lot of "borderline" players that can hit a gear and run out several racks in a row. Anyone who plays in these events is going to have to play their absolute best (even those that some may deem play at a Master's speed). With it being Alternate break that gives everyone a chance to win. However, you still have to play your best. I play every event the same way... If your opponent cannot get to the table...they cannot win.

looks like a good tournament that is gonna be held this weekend.. has anyone heard any rough numbers for how many players showing up??? thinking about coming down tomorrow thanks in advance

I can't tell you how many times I have won from my chair. :)

Wow...

What a tournament!!! Jeremy, great job on the event! I especially like the generosity on leaving the tables open for practice and action during the afternoon on Saturday!!! The food was great, the place is really nice and I will most definitely be back. Even with the number of players (78), the event flowed very well and made it down to the money round in the first day. I am hoping to see a similar event for 9-ball! Although I think you definitely have to have a longer race with 9-ball.

The competition was fierce and the favorites to win had a very tough time of it. I saw a lot of well-played matches and met some new people...some who post on AZBililards and some individuals whose names I have seen posted in the money on other events.

Please post the results as I am interested to see who finally cashed in the top spots!!

Patrick Troutman

It was great meeting you Patrick. Too bad we weren't able to play at all. Hopefully next time it will work out better.

From what I know, the top three were as follows:

1. Tim Volkman
2. Matt Mitchell
3. Chad Elston

Thanks!

Yeah it was nice to meet you as well Patrick. It was a fun event and nice to put some faces with the names. I played bad and my opponents I played, played well. You cannot expect to win let alone get to the money unless you are playing your best.

Congrats to those that cashed. I did not see any of Tim's games but know he beat some tough players to get to the top. I played against him in the Olympia Open this past January and know that he is tough. Not to mention Matt and Chad both were playing extremely well in this event. There was definitely a lot of talent present.

I am thinking that the Varsity could put on a big table event as well. Those damn 9ft Diamond tables are brutal!!!! It took me a long time to begin to get used to them. I think though that it would be a lot of fun to play a tournament on those and I think the turn out would be about the same. I am going to try and get in touch with some of the rooms here in Milwaukee about trying to host some weekend events. I know that there are two establishments in our area that could host big events. One in Waukesha and one in Milwaukee. It would be nice to get our city back on the map....

Varsity results

The weekend of April 25th & 26th saw 78 players make the trip to Oshkosh, WI for the $1,000 added guaranteed No Masters 8-Ball event. Players traveled from across Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, and Indiana to attend.

On Saturday the field was narrowed down to 16 players that would come back to play on Sunday.

Sunday found Tim Volkman of Oshkosh, WI facing off against Chad Elston of Beloit, WI for the hot seat. Both players played excellent but it was Tim Volkman who prevailed 4-2, sending Chad to the loser's bracket. In the loser's bracket Matt Mitchell from Janesville, WI won 6 matches in a row to get a chance at playing Chad in the semi-finals. In the end Matt came out on top winning 7 matches in a row and getting a chance to play Tim in the finals.

Matt kept his hot streak going by defeating Tim Volkman 4-2 in the first set. Tim was able to get revenge though in the second set winning 4-1.

Jeremy and all the staff at The Varsity Club would like to say thank you to all the players who attended and made this event a huge success.
