Any 9ball turny's around the WPB/Jupiter/Lake Worth area?

Any specific town? I don't know where you are headed from the towns you mentioned. What is WPB?

I think Hollywood (Billiards) on Tues night is as close as you are going to get.

Grover's in WPB has big plans but nothing yet i dont think. Give it a try 561-478-1680. Ask for Jen or Steve.

Man I have called almost every poolroom around and can not find one. I used to live here also but have moved away back in 01'....things have changed a bit

There are no tourneys at any of the local places but there is a Pro tourney on 7/25 at Ultimate Billiards in Fort Pierce and an amateur tourney at the same place on 7/26. The event is run by Tony Crosby. There is another event in Davie Florida west of Ft. Lauderdale at a room called MissQ. It is run by my friend Curtis Kelley and usually has a strong field. $75.00 entry and a possible payout of 800.00 with a full field. Race to 7, double elimination, rack your own. 9 on the snap in the bottom 2 corners spots up and the 2 is racked directly behind the 9.

I left that area about 10 or 12 years ago, so I'm sure things have changed quite a bit, but didn't Mizz have a nice room up in North Palm Beach area? I also remember a pretty nice room in Lake Worth on Congress down near Lantana, but as I said, that was several years ago.

I think you might be thinking about Kelly's Billiards, I used to work there 1 day a week to get free pool about 10 years ago. I called Atlantic, Groovers, Playboys, Palm Beach Billiards, Kelly's, Sticks n Stones(disconnected phone #)and a couple more but no luck????

In Marietta GA you can almost find one every night if you look hard enough.....what going on down here?

Miz's closed shortly after his death. Playboy closed, Kiss Shot closed, Victory closed, Grover's changed hands all in the last 2 years or so. It is not the pool mecca it used to be. In fact there is almost no reason for me to to go there anymore other than to escape NE Winters.

PM forum member Poolpro he is in that area. Jason could probably steer you in the right direction. I have not been in that area since '03.
Isn't Grovers now called Airport Billiards? I know Jason used to work there.

Wow, that really sucks! As big as pool seems to be in Florida, I can't imagine an area that big not having any decent rooms.

Yes the official name is now Airport Billiards.

Wow Kiss Shot closed huh? That used to be the room I liked most, Paul Johnson was a great guy and a great pool player.

How about Shootersville??

Man they are dropping like flies down here. I had only played in the room a couple of times but the tables were always nice and the tall ceilings were a big plus.
I guess Sticks n Stones went under as well.

I would guess that the rest of the surviving poolrooms might want to start having some tournaments to draw some attention to themselves.....sounds like a good idea to me anyway, but then again who am I?

I don't think they called it Shootersville anymore.
After someone was shot there they closed and reopened with a name change.
It was a nice room. John Ditorro was house pro there.

It was a smaller room but what about Action Billiards in Boynton Beach?
Gosh I use to sell to all these places. I guess I can't make any money while visiting Mom anymore.

Shootersville in Delray had a huge rent (20K) per month. It changed hands 3 times and finally defaulted and closed. Sticks n Stones moved from the shopping center on the NW corner of Okeechobee Blvd. and Military Trail to Zip Code Place across the street. It changed hands a few years ago and changed it's name to Victory Billiards. After several major fights, drug dealings, and underage drinking problems, it also closed. Who would think pool halls had this kind of patronage? The room you were thinking of on Congress Avenue was called the Cue Room. It was in the small shopping center on the west side of Congress Ave. and 2nd Ave. North in Lake Worth. It changed hands in the early 80's and changed the name to the Cue Garden. It closed in the mid 90's when Tony left and opened Playboy Billiards on west Lake Worth Rd. Both Tony (Playboy) and Paul Johnson (Kiss Shot) fell victim to increasing rents and landlords that really didn't want pool rooms in their shopping centers. I started my pool playing venture in the Cue Room in 1964. It had linoleum floors and AMF 9 foot tables and a sandwich bar to die for. Table time was a whopping 60 cents per hour. I used to skip school to practice. Those were the good old days.

Action Billiards is now called George's Billiards. They completely remodeled the place and it's NON-SMOKING. Atlantic Billiards(Royal Palm Beach), Airport Billiards (FKA Grover's Hip Pocket) and Georges are all non- puffing establishments.:thumbup:

Yeah, I worked at Grover's for a bit. I had a pretty good Sunday tournamnet going. Non handicapped race to 4 double eliminiation 9 ball. We would get a small field, but some real good players. Richard Broughmpton, Hunter Lombardo, Curtis Kelly, along with some other good players. I thought it was a pretty strong field for a weekly $15 tournamnet. The place would even add to the pot. I am sorry to see that it hasn't been continued. I was getting 16 plus players sometimes and usually between 8 and 12 on a reguler basis.

The old Action Billiards ( Now called George's Billiards) is starting a Thur night 8 ball tournamnent, double elimination, BCA rules. They did change it to a handicapped tournamnet though. I am not sure if it is really up and running yet, but may be worth a shot.

Other than that, you don't have much to speak of. It is a shame.

Jason
