I ran into a friend of mine last night at my 9 ball league match. He used to play in the league, but his team dropped out and I hadn't seen him for a few weeks. When he played he always used a Schon cue and he used to ask me a lot of questions about cues.

He showed up last night and he had a nice looking sneaky pete cue with him. I didn't think much about it at first, but I finally got around to asking him what kind of cue it was. He said "It's a Dennis Searing" and I stopped in my tracks because this guy had no idea what he had. I looked at the cue closer and it was definately a "S" cue. He told me that he bought it from a black guy in a bar for $150 and it needed a refinish. He got Keith Josey to refinish the cue and it looked real nice. Of course I tried to buy it from him, but he said i'd have first shot if he decided later on to let it go.

What a deal, a "S" cue for $150. I'd love to own one of Dennis's cues even if it was a S/P.

Might not be a Searing....

Just so you know (or so you can pass along to your buddy)...it might not be a Searing cue he has.

For awhile (a couple years ago, I think), Leon Sly was making cues with a black "S" in the buttcap. There was a thread about it a long time ago, and I believe Leon wasn't aware that the "S' logo was already taken. If I heard right, Dennis actually helped Leon pick a new one.

I saw quite a few Leon Sly sneakies in Maryland over the past couple years...both WITH and WITHOUT that "S" logo on 'em.

Only way to know for sure is to ask Dennis and/or Leon about the cue.

$150 for a Leon is cheap! $150 for a Dennis is cause for a heart attack.

Thank you for this information. I had no idea Leon Sly used the "S" logo also and it's possible that my friend had a Sly cue, but he specifically said it was a Searing. Here's a little more to this story:

My friend owned the Searing cue and he was carrying it on his motorcycle in a cue case. He traveled a few miles to his home with the cue on the motorcycle he thought, but when he got home the cue and case had fallen off. He went back following his route and looked everywhere and the cue and case were gone. At least a year later he saw the black man playing with his "S" cue in a bar and he couldn't prove to the man it was his so he offered to buy the cue. The black man didn't have a clue what it was and my friend got it back with quite a few nicks for $150 and he then had Keith Josey restore the finish on it. Keith also made a second shaft to match the cue and the original Searing shaft.
