The best equipment by far is at South Hills Golden Cue in Bridgeville. Clean tables, balls polished daily, definitely a class room.

Ed, Marino owns that room, doesn't he? How does SHGC compare with the joint out on Rte. 51?

Yes Marino does own it from what I know. I am not familiar with all the pool halls in the area, frankly I have practically retired from the game over the past 5-10 years, since my divorce.
But I stopped into the Golden Cue again and was impressed with the quality of the room. Tables roll perfectly true. Premium cloth in good condition. Balls polished. Makes practicing straight pool a pleasure.
I tend to go when the place is not busy. Not sure if there is decent action there when it is busier or not.

The hall on Rt 51, about 15 min. from AGC is called Cue & Cushion. It was the first hall I ever played, in high school intermural competition many, many years ago. I don't know about tourneys there, as I rarely visit. Place was really a dump a few years ago, but has been improving. My home room is Jimmy Marino's room, SHGC. 9-ball tourney every Saturday night around midnight. I agree on the equipment. About 16 30 year old GC's and a billiard table, all well-maintained. Balls and tables are always clean. Staff and clientele is pleasant, but jukebox tends to be loud on busy nights. Word is that Breakers is better for action. Never really saw much money change hands at Golden Cue, maybe because the table lights are all ceiling-mounted quite high. If you can catch Jimmy in the right mood, he'll share some stories from the 80's, when he, Miz, Alan Hopkins and Mike Sigel would do weekend exhibitions. According to Freddie "The Beard", Jimmy was as good as anybody in the 70's, including a Johnson City win in 1971.
