Are laminated shafts better or cheaper to make? Saw on forum meucci worth more with no dot shaft but big selling point on website. Buying CC & have Meucci HP3 with black dot I bought used to sell. Wish I had found Az before I bought the Meucci !

There are many arguments about the pros and cons of laminated shafts. A very well known cue make I know says the only reason production cue companies developed them was to work around a shortage of good quality, old growth Maple with a high level of density. By laminating the wood you can add back in some weight and density.

Other cynics say that Predator's marketing success showed that people would pay more for an engineered shaft than one that was just plain old wood that may have been just as good, if not better.

Flat laminated shafts like the Black Dot were one of the early implementations that seem to have been mostly abandoned in favor of some for of radial lamination, like the Predator.

Personally I like to see innovation and advanced engineering being finally applied to cue design and construction. I shoot with an OB-1 shaft and love it. Oddly I actually like the fact it is lighter than the regular wood shafts that came with the cue. and if I have to switch back to those the balance of the feels bad to me.

Do you like the shaft? Does it play well for you? Don't worry about what the rest of us think...

I hit some balls with a black dot shaft and I actually liked how it hit.
I didn't try to notice if it was low deflection or not. I measured it at only 12.6mm, but I though it was supposed to be 12.75mm. It feels too skinny to me, but it did hit pretty nice. I'm trying to sell it to a buddy of mine.

If you have a Meucci you can put an OB or Predator shaft on it.
My favorite player is my old Meucci (1991) with a Predator shaft on it.

I recently bought an AE cue, Samsara cue, and Bob Runde. I tried to stop
playing with the Meucci with Predator shaft and get some use out of my other cues for a couple weeks now. I had some good and very bad days lately. Tonight I just took out the Meucci with Predator shaft and I felt like a show-off, I couldn't stop running the table. I started to play at this new place (and it has tight pockets) once in awhile and people got to know me and never seen me play so good. They started looking at me like I have been holding back on them. I kinda felt like Tom Cruise in the movie "The Color of Money." After an hour I had the only table with nobody wanting to challenge me. I felt stupid and bored waiting for someone to challenge me, after awhile I just left and went chasing women, I never get bored of that.

So... if you don't like your Meucci, you can put something like a Predator or OB shaft on it.
