Scaramouche - the weird miss rule during the match between Ronny O'Sullivan and John Higgins at the UK Championships.

Was the referee right in his call by having John Higgins shot after Ronny had touched the black ball with his hand..

I know the referee was wrong in trying to place the white ball after the foul...

Over here we believe that Ronny should still be shooting...

Would you pls try and find out the ruling....as I am a referee over here (Canada)...we would like to know...

many thanks and have a great Xmas and a Better New Year....

Did Ronnie hit a red or colour he was shooting? If not, it is a miss. I played a guy years ago in a Prov. ranking event. The level isn't very high here (couple guys the exception) Guy hooked me and I just missed hitting it. He called a miss! Other than TV, I never seen it. I laughed at the call.

He attempted to hit a multiple times without success and then touched a ball with his shirt committing a foul. The table was turned over to his opponent instead of having Ronnie continue attempting to play safe. The problem with that was that it left higgins shooting at a red and if he forced Ronnie to shoot again he was now on a red instead of a color. It definitely opens the door for abuse if that ruling was correct.

Here is the foul with English commentary and subsequent discussion

I didn't have the opportunity to watch the match between the two but from the link above as I watched carefully, I am simply baffled to see a foul upon a foul of "missings" several times upon yet another foul that justified its end. The referee was certainly right from the wrong in the first place, LOL! This has got to be most bizarre and silliest scenario in the snooker foul history that I've ever seen.

Next time, in similar scenarios, a player would simply "touch" another ball (by deliberate mistake) and call it quits without having to repeat difficult "foul and miss" shots and to prevent his opponent from accumulating points, as deemed fit.
