Kicking 1, 2 and 3 rails are affected by playing english on the cueball. Jumping isn't. If I put left hand spin on the cueball when I jump, I may have to account for a little swerve after the ball lands. If I apply left hand english off the rail when kicking, I have to account for a different angle when it comes off the rail. Saying you can teach someone to kick accurately off 1, 2 and 3 rails in about an hour is an absolute insult to any pool player that has worked on this part of their game. Go tell Grady what you think, and see if he agrees.
Kicking does not require english unless the shot specifically calls for it.
I don't know where you have learned to kick but you only need to put english on the ball when you want to do something specific, such as lengthen and shorten the path of the cue ball.
Look Shawn, it's really simple.
You have your opinions and I have mine.
The difference is that mine are based on ten year's of experience and literally hundreds of thousands of shots in dozens of locations.
My opinions on kicking come from the dozens of books and tapes and associations with many instructors such as Tom Rossmann who make a living doing just that.
Call Mark Smith, the owner of Beezers Billiards in Russselville Arkansas and ask him if Tom Rossmann didn't have his c and d player kicking accurately in less than an hour. I have hired Tom to teach players in private lessons and inside of two hours they were kicking and banking with accuracy.
If you don't believe me then I will be happy to arrange a match between one of Tom's female students and yourself. She can tell you the same things but I think you would prefer to see the proof.
In this case my friend you are the philosopher who doesn't have the experience to back up your theories. Yes you can play a little and perhaps you think that this qualifies you to hold forth as if your opinion should be mistaken for fact. It's not.
My viewpoint comes from actually KNOWING people like Grady and Tom and DOING exhibitions and lessons all over the world. I have taught rank amateurs to professional players the finer points of jumping balls. Have you ever even met either of these people?
Grady puts out videos that shave years off the learning curve in one pocket, banks, and kicks. Banking and Kicking systems go even further and shave months off of learning them Grady's way.
