Best all-around player in the world?

Not exactly his specialty but I have seen him play it pretty well. He placed in the top 3 or 4 at Derby a couple of years ago IIRC.

I watched him play several of his matches at that Derby. He beat some pretty good one pocket specialists then. I was very impressed with his moves and knowledge.

spoke with Joel Weinstock just now, said the fellow was the Canadian snooker national champ. The match happened in the mid 80's and he believed it went down at the Old Tulsa Billiards Palace.....he could not quite remember the name of the guy and said Thornburg, or thorn something lol. He watched most of the match and said that David did not demolish him, that it was a very long match and that the Canadien fellow was one of the best in that area around that time.

Wow! I had no idea he played one pocket at all, he never ceases to amaze me. I might have to revise my picks for best all-around players. Because if I was just going by 14.1 and 9 ball I would have picked Souquet for sure, now I hear he can play one pocket...he may just be the best all-around player.

IIRC, when he joined Mataya and Danny D. in the booth after being eliminated from the 2004 Derby ring game, he mentions that he had picked up one pocket and had been practicing it for a while. So he has had maybe 6 years to practice it. Considering how great a player he is, I have no doubts that if he stuck with it, then he plays it very well indeed.

Also he mentioned that David made quite a few total clearances on the snooker table also and that basicly is near world class level on any table any game with balls and a stick. Also mentioned Daves high run in 3cush he believed to be in the upper teens very close to 20....

Is there a year for this? I would suspect early 70's when Cliff was running around doing his hustling thing. In the 80's he was one of the best in the world, hard to believe anyone off the tour or away from high level (world class) competition could beat him without a spot.
