I know this has been covered before but I thought of something new. I've managed to out run the nuts for the last 3 years and not catch a cold until yesterday. So I wanna go practice but I can't because smokey poolhalls make the cold worse and last longer.

Anyways I was dating a girl that runs marathons and she has asthma a little. So she wouldn't go inside a smokey poolhall because it messed her lungs up.

My question is this. What if 10 top pros couldn't go inside a smoking poolhall due to medical reasons? What if the pro couldn't afford a table at home or couldn't fit one at home to practice on?

Let's hear a logical explanation from the people that think smoking indoors is ok?

You're asking to have logic applied to an issue that is an emotional one. It won't work.

I smoke and its a choice. I chose not to go where I'm not allowed to smoke. You have the right to chose to not go where people are allowed to smoke.

I might take up cigarette smoking because they taste like crap, smell like sh!t, cause cancer, age me, turn my teeth and nails yellow, make me cough, and will definitely shorten my life while lowering my quality of life while I'm alive!

Ha... good luck finding anyone with a logical explanation to smoke anywhere at all.

Dont worry, soon enough you wont go anywhere! Smoking bans are inevitable, prepare now.

the above posts clearly show the emotional charge of this issue. If smoke is so bad for you why go into a pool room exposing yourself to the above symptoms?

There isn't a problem with asking for a logical explanation to an emotional issue. The problem here is that he's asking for a logical explanation on an issue that makes absolutely no sense at all.

Because having to choose to play pool or not play pool based on the people that smoke there is a false choice.

IF smoke is so bad for you? How is it an "IF" ?

For the record, around here there has been no smoking indoors for many years. People who smoke, go outside. There are also bans in the workplace and in a vehicle when driving with a child under 16 I believe.

I love the fact that you can't smoke in bars and
pool rooms in Colorado... Most smokers don't seem
to mind going out side

If smokers feel they have the right to kill me with second hand smoke, then the right to bare arms in the U.S. should allow me to defend myself and shoot smokers getting too close..... only fair!

I think beer stinks and its a proven fact that it causes brain damage and liver disease maybe it should also be ban..I smoke and I wish they would outlaw smoking and alcohol tomorrow that way everyone could witness the government colapse without the taxes. If you think the economy is broke now, take away the taxes from alcohol and tobacco and see what happens. I do not like the fact that Ohio is non smoking in the pool hall so I dont go. The government doesnt care if your buisness goes down its a numbers game for them. They believe what they lose in taxes in these places they can make up plus more in the fines. If the government finds that they were making more money from the taxes they will lift the ban....

Now wanting to shoot smokers with guns? I might have been right on the emotional issue part...
I know 80+ year old non smokers that have been in pool rooms all there life. Why aint they dead from second hand smoke? Also i dont personally know of a single person that died of lung cancer from second hand smoke.

All that said is it a nasty filthy habit? yes. Is it really more dangerous to non smokers than drunk drivers or the food we eat? No.

And no it isnt a false choice...it is a simple choice to either subject yourself to environment you dislike or not to.

Hope this helps you out.

Some of you weren't around when smoking was being pushed upon the public from about every possible angle. Some of you weren't around then and were not seduced by constant advertisements and peer pressure to take up smoking. And some of you have never had a serious nicotine habit.

I think it should be up to the room owner how he handles the smoking/non-smoking question and if you disagree with him/her ... go elsewhere. Governments are just too hypocritical in their treatment of "bad habits" to be trusted with that decision.

Do you have any bad habits? Drink a little too much on occasion or possibly not always stay away from others when you are sick? Pick a bad habit that you just can't seem to break... have any? If so, you should be humiliated, banned, and made to feel like a 2nd class citizen.

Its not only because it's emotional, this just made me think about it from another angle.

I am a smoker and yeah i find it annoying that i have to go outside whenever i want a smoke. I was so mad when they brought the smoking ban to town, but ya know what....i don't find it as annoying anymore. being able to see the tables and see across the room at my pool hall is so much easier...when we were able to smoke indoors, all you saw was a sea of gray, and then there were days where the smoke was even to much for me. So i am pretty ok with it now.

I quit smoking 7 years ago so I've been on both sides of the fence. I always couldn't believe people could smoke inside.

1. I'm sure this is sarcasm, but you have to get pretty close to a beer to smell it.
2. They already outlawed alcohol......it was called prohibition....it didn't go well
3. Taxes from tobacco and alcohol are huge. If the US could finally get over itself and legalize marijuana, it could get much more.
4. You can smoke outside...I don't find it such a big deal. If you have ever seen a set of balls from a place that allowed smoking for a long time, it would be hard to argue it's ill affects(what was once white is brown).
5. Well, it IS sad that we elect what we believe is the least evil representative.......

What if I am addicted to shooting smokers?

The whole thing is foolish! Smokers keep saying non smokers have the right to go else where! If all rooms are smoking, we might have the right, just not the option. People addicted can't exercise their option to not smoke so the government is helping with bans.

Now, where to smoke. I see no problem with well vented smoke rooms inside the hall, who should pay? The rooms, all customers or just smokers?

All that said and I didn't even get to the workers. Can you imagine working all day in that environment that would suck for anyone! They should have the right to a safe work place over any addiction.
