Im going to Valley Forge and im in the market to buy a new cue. Id like to spend 600-700 on something custom. I just wanted to know if any of you had an idea of what i might be able to get my hands on. This will be my first time at the expo. Thanks.
 
Same boat here, but more like $400 - $500, no wrap, 12.75mm, otherwise am still researching what I'd like to pick up.
 
COOL!...I buy a cue EVERY year! I live about 30 minutes away and spend 24/7 there!


with 500 or 700 beans you can get a sweet deal on a real nice custom cue!

My advise is this.....give your $$$ to someone else :) I give mine to my wife so I dont buy the first 3 cues I see :)


really.....find 3 or 4 cues you cant live without.....give it a few days and make your choice....

Check out Triple Cross Cues, the guys name is Tom Gedris. Very nice guy, easy to deal with and makes a beautiful cue. If he doesn't have one you like he will make it per your order. I had mine custom made for less than what you are willing to spend. It hits great, I gave my schon to a family member after owning the tcc for a week.

Right next to Triple Cross Cues is Crown Cues. Similar price range. You can find playing cues, masse' cues, carom cues at the Crown Cues booth.

Crown Cues and Triple Cross Cues will be downstairs on the lower level, in booths L12 and L13. They'll be sharing a pool table between the two booths.

For those looking for custom cues, there is a billiards store in Gresham Oregon called Billiards and Bagels. The owner claims to have more different cuemaker cues than any store in the county. He also lets you chalk the cue any play with it. The guy came across as a bit of a car salesman the first time I met him (mainly because I knew he made more money if he talked you into a custom), but if you share his view on production cues I think you probably won't feel the same way I did at first. He has a few famous customers who come into town for a few days to get a really good feel for the cues (Stefano Pelinga was one I remember).

I remember trying some ugly cue with a yellow wrap (a Merling if I remember right - probably long out of business or deceased) that had a rock solid hit. He attribued it to the fact that the cue had been in the store a long time and the shaft had stiffened as the wood aged (interesting theory). Anyway, I didn't buy it and got a used Predator a few weeks later, but it would definately be my next stop if I were looking to narrow down some makers.
 
Expo

I was surprised to see the plug for my efforts and am very thankful for someone to comment so positively. I am proud of the work I do and do make an extra effort to please my customers. I try to listen and let my product sell itself. You are all welcome to come by Booth L13 downstairs and visit and discuss custom work. There will be a rented table available to try out cues. DON"T BUY ANY CUE WITHOUT A TEST DRIVE!!!! Crown Cues next door may be able to help with masse, and trick cues also. I should have around 15 to 18 cues in a range of prices, exotic woods, weights, lengths, firmness, and definitely high quality playability.

The advice on not buying the first few cues you like is good. There will be hundreds of cues in your price range. Most sellers will let you try them out. There will be several tables available to test cues.
You might consider buying a used cue. There will be many people who also want to buy a new cue. They will be selling their old cues. You might land a good deal.
I am selling a mint condition Predator 3k7. Lots of ivory and mother of pearl. Two 314 shafts. One new and one used ( i have several predator cues) $800.
I have heard that if you wait until the last day you can get a better deal. Of course you may lose the cue you really like. Good Luck.
 
Make sure you swing by the CB Cues (Chris Byrne Custom Cues) booth downstairs. I think you'll be happy with his selection this year. There will be a table in the booth for test-driving and you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck with his cues. I'm biased because I love mine. You can decide for yourself. :)

Cues are like cars .
Dive it first .. Good luck if you want a cue with a wrap i'll have some and i don't have what your looking for i point you towards the best bang for you buck .

Whatever you do - DO NOT buy a jump/break for under 100 bones!!! :eek: :wink: Kidding of course....good luck in your search! :cool:

The best prices are to be had on Sunday when people want to get rid of inventory so they don't have to carry it back. The only problem with that is that a cue you love may be gone.
Barry Cameron & Chris Byrne share a booth and some of their cues might fall in the your range. They both make fine cues that play well. They'll usually have a table there so you can hit with the cue before buying. They are both very fine people who stand behind their product 100 percent.
My most often used player is a Cameron and I've some fine cues to choose from. I've hit with Chris's cues and have liked the way they play, but haven't played with one for an extended period so I have to temper my endorsement of his a little.
I think you should at a minimum go hit with their cues before you buy anything.
Also assuming he is there again, Corey Barnhart makes a really nice cue. It may be pushing your price range a little hard but he makes an outstanding cue.
Also don't forget if you really like the way a particular cuemaker's cues play, but everything he has is too fancy and expensive, ask him if he can make a less fancy cue in your price range. It would mean you didn't have it immediately, but you'd just have to wait a little.

Cameron will have a booth and you can get a really nice playing cue for the price range you are looking for.
