I know a player who participated in that tournament and he was pretty satisfied with how it worked. But he obviously didn't face situations similar to this one I managed to take a screenshot of: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=1845954&postcount=96What is even funny is that, now that the Magic Rack is out I see all sorts of funny gizmos and templates trying to do the same as the Magic Rack. Interfering with play?
Why don't you ask all the players that used the rack in the Philippines in the World 10 Ball Tourney?
Interfering, you say? Read the page to the end for users comments, and then proceed to another player who witnessed the same rack situation: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=1846030&postcount=109
As for other templates "trying to do the same", Rack-M-Rite was there before. And even before I would suppose, Bob Jewett came up with an idea which is used in Magic Rack. He published it in his column in Billiards Digest back in 2001. At the moment I'm going to test his paper template, and then try Magic Rack - with a single purpose, hoping to get more examples of how any foreign object on the table surface can interfere with normal play. Draw shots, drag shots, power shots, slow rolls running over the template... It could be great if any template could be removed right after the break, but as long as it stays on the table, it is not normal play IMO.
I would love racking with just a wooden rack without any templates, but if we vote which template one loves better, tapping cloth gets my vote. I bet it interferes play less then any object resting on the cloth. No hard feelings to any product on the market. I hope I will have something to come up with as a result of my templates "test".
