My first real tournament

Next Sunday, March 28, I will be joining the Shizuoka 3-Cushion Festival. This will be my first real tournament....so to speak. I joined a tournament back in November, and won the tournament, but it was a doubles any/any tournament. If you're not sure what that is, of course you understand doubles, the any/any means you can choose either ball as the cue ball. That's each inning though. For example in the first inning if I go with the white then all of my shots in that inning must be with the white. My next turn up to the table I can choose either ball again. Anyway, since it was a doubles tournament we were shooting one inning each so winning the tournament wasn't exactly all me.....although I did play a part in it. hehe!!

Anyway, on the 28th I will be joining a proper 3C tournament for the first time. I'm guessing there are going to be a lot of good players there so I'm just joining for the experience of it. It will be handicapped though so I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility that I could do alright. Wish me luck.

We're also having a "house" tournament at the moment. We have 16 members signed up and it's round robin. We play at our own pace and have about a month to finish all of our matches. Match up when you can. Anyway, that tournament finishes this coming Saturday, March 20, and I am the favorite to win. Everyone has been eliminated except for the guy that owns the place. He still has 2 matches left and if he wins both of them he'll take the win. If he loses just one, or they both don't finish, then I'm the winner. The matches are handicapped and go to 40 innings. I'm hoping he blows one of them. Wish me luck there too. All of my games are finished. Out of 15 matches I am 8 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw.

Good luck

I hope you do well in both your tournaments.
Do you know if Miyamoto Kobayashi still plays?
He is one of my 3-cushion heroes.

Is he the father or the son? I think the father still plays though. Not sure.

He managed to win the world title(i think twice) when Ceulemans was
dominating. He was considered the 2nd best player in the world.
When Ceulemans talked of retiring a reporter told Miyamoto"That
will make you the best."Kobayashi replied"If Ceulemans retires,I retire.
I live to play Ceulemans!"
That's why i love this player.
Great that he has a son to carry on.
What is his son's name? thanx

Sorry, I don't know the son's name. I've always just called them "Kobayashi" and separated them with either "Otosan" or "Musuko". You gotta remember, the only people I converse with about pool are Japanese so I'm speaking Japanese all the time with this stuff. Otosan means father and Musuko means son.

I'll get the son's name next time I go to the pool hall, and he looks just like his father

Ganbare Mullyman.

I got the 1rst name confused with Musashi, the legendary 16th century
swordsman.I have a book about his life.
I remember Nobuaki now and his son is Hideaki.

Thanx

Not 5 rings

5 Rings. Good book.

This book was written in the 1930's by a Japanese newspaper writer.
It covers most of his life and is as long as War & Peace.
I believe it's called Musashi but i haven't had it for years (it's being
passed around a bunch of friends)
Every serious pool player should read it.Lot of knowledge in it but to
sum it up - Musashi was a swordsman of the spirit rather than technique.
