Hey all...

I recently became the Phoenix Billiards correspondant for the online publication Examiner.com.

The focus of my articles is to provide news and reviews of:

1. Local tourneys and leagues
2. Pool hall and club reviews
3. Interviews with amateurs and pros who reside in the Phoenix area
4. Important news updates… for example, the recent date change of the AZPL tournament

Probably should do a little homework first!

Looks like another one of those sites that shows you top 10 places to go and then all the pool related information gets real old and the tournaments are no longer running. Then people show up and get real upset and your websites credibility is gone.

I agree, and am working on helping that tourney website in my first article update their data, and add a few more that they are missing.

I am primarily working on the West Valley right now, as most web presence articles, reviews, etc... for places are not only incredibally sparse, they are old (2005).

Thank you for the response here, and I will check out as well the articles posted from other members media outlets.

Partially.

The online publishing company I contract for is National, but they also want local news and information written by local correspondants.

But either way, I enjoy and learn from reading the articles and columns of anyone else writing in the genre (billiards), and can both learn and share what the intention is...

To help market billiards to people, and to get information out that is of value.

To be able to capture and keep current a "Weekly" tournament guide, you need to hire a team of people to keep this updated. At one point there was over 70 Weekly tournaments running each and every week, in Phoenix Metro alone. Now that number is probably in the 80-90 range.

Another HUGE problem is reporting and showing tournaments with formats/details that are actually getting people to show up and play. Just because a little bar says $5 8-ball tournament on Wednesdays, doesn't mean that if a player sees this on your website they show up 2 months from now that anyone will be there.

The local papers have tried to list "Weekly's" and many many of them are not valid, which makes all of them invalid. (Besides the few that have been the same for years and successful every week).

www.AZPoolScene.com has been running successfully for close to 6 years. The history of tournaments, players, rooms, leagues, etc. etc. is out there for all to view. We have created an online forum for players to discuss everything. The MyPoolScene Blog is updated very frequently.

We also have a larger tournament calendar that is out there for all to see, subscribe too and to add too, etc.

Thank you for the information and links! Rather than try to keep a running tab of all tourneys all over the valley (which it appears this board and others already do, and have put much work into), my goal is to write primarily on reviews of different bars/halls and give them a more full and personal viewpoint for players and potential customers, while also posting breaking news that might be important in a short amount of time.

ie... the article on the change in the AZPL state championship from may 14th to the 7th.

I also am trying to write primarily from a Phoenix billiards perspective, but also interesting for those outside Phoenix... examiner.com being a National and Local media source.

And all in all, I am trying to learn what best formats work, and what brings readers to have an interest. My articles are formatted for only 200-400 words, so the news etc... has to be pretty concise and focussed on a narrow point.

And I thank you very much for your hints, suggestions, and information. Rome certainly wasnt built in a day, and each new endeavour has its hits and misses as I grow in experience to what Im trying to do.

Competition makes everyone work harder a producing a better product! If you do an artical on the Lizard Acres Pool Room, start of with 29 Gold Crowns, 1 is a 5' x 10" Carom Table, 3 are 5' x 10" Snookers Tables, and the 25 are 4.5" x 9.0" Pool Tables.

Come out some Monday about 12:30p.m. when about 60 or so Sr. Ladies are playing, and do an artical on the Mis-Cues Club.
