Need helpful ideas in packing slate for move

I dread the thought of it, but I may have to move my 9' pool table (unless it sells first) from PA to NC in our relocation of our home and ministry to Charlotte, NC.

What is the best way to transport safely my 3 pieces of slate in the moving truck I'll be renting.

Any input is appreciated.

sandwich slate between 2" ridgid styrofoam, then build 2"x4" crating to fit snuggly around styrofoam.
I know this sounds like alot of work and money but it is cheaper in the long run.
