New Cue and Kamui Black Hard Tips!!!

Just got my new Ebony Bobby Hunter cue today. I had it set up with Kamui Black Hard tips.

I'll give it a workout, but so far they seem pretty hard. Not a whole lot harder than the Medium, but enough to notice.

Super Soft Here I Come!!!

Just got my new Ebony Bobby Hunter cue today. I had it set up with Kamui Black Hard tips.

Kamui Black Hard Verdict - WAY TOO HARD FOR ME!!!

I play better with a softer tip, so I think it's time to give the Super Soft a try. So far the Soft is my tip of choice, even after trying the Black Medium out on the same cue.

I'll be seding my new rc3 cue back to Richard to get re-tipped next week. We'll be putting on some new Black SS tips. I tried the "S" on a Hunter I had, and it was great. I've heard the two are pretty close, but the SS has a bit more grip to it.

I guess I'll find out for myself soon enough!

Please explain what you mean by "installed wrong." Thanks.

The tip was installed with, and had the sides burnished with Liquid Super Glue. This will ruin a Kamui tip because the super glue will soak into the layers and makes them hard and slick. I had *Soft* tips that miscued like crazy!

Basically you want to use a Loc Tite Gel, and put NOTHING on the sides. You just burnish them with leather.

When they are installed wrong, they play like crap. When done correctly, they are absolutely in a league of their own as far as tips go
.

Any Difference???

Bump for some input on the "New Kamui Black" tips.

Anybody notice *ANY* Difference in play/feel between the new and old ones???

Pros using Kamui

FWIW, I summed up the count of pros using Kamui tips (from their website), here's the results:

BLACK H 1
BLACK M 8
BLACK S 16
BLACK SS 7
ORIGINAL H 1
ORIGINAL M 5
ORIGINAL S 11
ORIGINAL SS 9

I have used Kamui tips for about 3-4 years now. Had a moori medium and was getting along great with that until the new tips came out. It seemed like I was getting more miscues than I should. Others told me they started having the same problems. Switched to kamui brown and loved it.
Then switched to Kamui blacks when they came out because it can get pretty humid up here in MN about the time spring tourneys roll around. I have noticed a problem with soft tips years ago getting softer in high humdity.
I have used the Medium, Soft and Supersoft tips on my playing cue and have settled on the Soft. The supersoft was OK and seemed to play a little better when the tip was less than half there. If I miscue now with the soft its my own fault not the tips. Don't need to buy expensive chalk in my opinion.
As the Kamui post states I believe a tip will start to play harder as more layers are removed. At least thats what I found out with the SS Kamui.
My break cue was originally phenolic and I wanted to go leather. Put a Kamui black hard on it. Then talked to Steve Lomax who informed me that the Samsura tip would give me more break speed. What a difference. Cue ball now explodes off the tip and I can control the cue ball as well as with the Kamui hard as sometimes I use cut breaks.

I'm currently playing with the SS. Havn't used the others so I can't comment. My first impressions are favorable, but I need to play with it a little more before I proclaim it my tip of choice.

The sales of Mediums requested is by far the most common. ask Troy (Koinnkid) he has all the cans from the Kamui's and it is 1 hell of a stack!! We've , I,ve used them since 2005, I have all hardness installed for testing. Some players don't know how to control all the spin, or a hard tip- use better chalk - master chalk covers the table and your hands in stead of the tip. mark

I have been using the black SS cut in half. To me it plays much like the Everest that I was using. It feels like a medium to me when cut down.

I have Kamui black med. I loved the way it played, but recently the tip blew out about half the tip poped off:angry:. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before ?

Ill most likely be getting another Kamui black med it plays great on my predator 314 shaft.
