I am going to be staying near the University of Pennsylvania for a week in September. Anyone know of any good places to play. I prefer poolhalls with 9 foot tables, but will take a recommendation on a bar with barboxes especially if there is a weekly tournament I might join.

Thanks in advance for any suggetions.

Unfortunately, there are no pool rooms in University City. The closest is Buffalo Billiards at Chestnut and Front St. From University City, you'd need to take public transportation or drive. It's basically a pub with two 9-ft tables. I wouldn't go there for serious play. Tacony Palmyra Billiards, to which I haven't been, is also within reasonable driving distance. Drexeline Billiards in Drexel Hill is a bit farther but still doable. If I were driving from University City, I'd go to Drexeline.

I'll ask some of my bar-going coworkers who live in the area if there are any barboxes nearby.

A couple of blocks away from Buffalo is Dave & Busters, on Front (or Columbus?). I know, I know, it aint a *real* poolhall, and there isn't any action there, but if you want a close location with decent 9 ft tables (they are kept in good shape), then it's a convenient place to hit balls. I can't remember, but the tables might be Diamond home editions. There were, like, 8 tables if I remember right. Full bar too.

I'd stay away from Tacony Billiards, lots of thug wanna be's. I have been to a bunch of league tournaments down there and every time its a niightmare. however they do have some Billiard tables and their 9 footers are kept in decent condition.

Is Pete Fusco's room still open? Something like "The Spot" in Feasterville -- but that is a little north of Philly I think; not sure if it would be convenient for you...

Or this place Classique Billiards in Phoenixville,Pa. I stopped there a few times after the Billiard Expo.
