Why do some of you Cue Makers sheath your brass insert on the shafts with wood and some of you just leave it solid brass? Is there a big difference hit wise, structure wise or is it no big deal?
Thanks for your replies.

If I understand your question correctly, some metal joints have a 5/8" through bore and others just a 1/2". Inserts with a 1/2" diameter button are readily available but the one with the 5/8 button are more difficult to find. So as to make a better fit for a piloted shaft some just leave the wood that the insert fits into on a shaft at 5/8.
