The young Futrell up 8-7 over Earl.

Chip Klein down 5-1 to Paul Song coming back to tie the match up at 5.

Oscar and Dechaine tied at 6.

The 2nd round is proving to be just as good as the first round was today.

I can't help but feel a little bad for Beau Runnigen... he started his 1am match late, went hill-hill with Orcullo then had to go straight into the next round against donnie mills on the tv table. That's gotta be mentally exhausting!

apparently the slow play by beau, combined with the slow play by donnie was too much for Jerry Forsyth to take... when he took over for Samm briefly he said a few entertaining things:

1) I'm praying for a 9-on-the-snap.
2) apparently the theory here is if you walk around the table long enough the balls will begin to disintegrate and give you a clear path to the object ball.
3) when she finally returned, he took off the headset and said, assuming he was off-air, "take over this match, this is terrible".

LOL

Tommy Tokoph.....

Tommy Tokoph has knocked off Jose Parica and Lee Van Corteza in his last 2 matches. I hope he has no plans on going to the Philippines any time soon.

All of which were unnecessary... And btw, I watched the whole match, Beau ran through the first quarter of the match quickly. Then Donnie matched it. Neither of them really shot for 4 or 5 straight games... you can't expect the guy that just sat there for 20 minutes while the other guy racked and shot, to just jump up and start running balls again. It takes a lot of composure to keep your head in the game when your 4 or 5 game lead just disappeared and now you've got to play for your tournament life in the biggest tournament there is... Hmmm... hey Jerry, you should get up there and see how the nerves are working on the tv table on the 1 loss side :) If he were to never be on the mic again, the pool world would be better for it.

Most of the past champions are still in: Mika, Shane, Owen, Souquet, Deuel, Strickland, Archer, Reyes, Varner. Only Schmidt, Pagulayan and Sigel of the past champions are not in anymore?

slow play is brutal to watch for many of us. Some it may not bother as much, but for some (me included) it is ab-so-lutely BRUTAL. For a human being to voice their opinion on that, is perfectly acceptable to me. You know what you have to do, get down and do it. No one is saying walk up and one stroke it, but SHOOT THE BALL!!!

I don't see the comparison between "keeping your composure" and taking 6 minutes to shoot a shot. There's a difference between just walking up and shooting without looking at all your options , or walking up and just getting down on the shot, taking 2 warm up strokes and pulling the trigger and someone who walks around the table 20 times looking at every ball on the table from every angle. Chalking your stick, walking around and studying ever ball, then chalking your stick again, getting down and going thru all you warm up strokes, getting up and walking around again and so on and so on.

It's BRUTAL !!!!:boring2::boring2:

I know who are playing the final: Mika and Shane!

That would be awesome. :-)

Hehehe... it would be awesome; but can you imagine if Mika lost to Shane - again, twice in as many weeks?? *IF* mika gets past lo li-wen that's a possibility.

but check out shane's record on the 1-loss side: Since his loss, he's won all matches, except one, by a landslide: 11-2, 11-6, 11-3, 11-4, 11-0, 11-1

I think he's definitely got his eyes on the prize.

Still though, you have a bunch of champions still in it. And hell, look how far that Engel kid has gone, he's still a threat, did you see what he did to Sigel??

I think no matter what happens, who wins the open, Engel will be the primary memory of this us open. Especially if he wins his next match. Even if he does, I'm not sure he can survive Bustamante (assuming he wins his next match as well).

rumors

heard a prominant pool player got knocked out in the parking lot in a dispute over money. anybody heard anything?

Has Shane been on the TV table since his first match? I only saw that and everyone knows how he played then. Would love to see his form now. :-)

Yeah. He seems phenomenal.

I love all the close scores!! However, it must be brutal to lose hill-hill in such important matches because it's the U.S. Open. :(

So when someone references "The spectators" are they talking about 10 people sitting around the table or are they talking about 500 people spectating? Just wondering how many people are there watching the matches since I heard a reference to like "300 local spectators" were watching the Chris Futrell matchup yesterday.

Also, I thought there was going to be an amature event also this year that was going to be held right next to the convention center? Maybe I am mistaken and it is something in the works for the upcoming years.

Spectators are going to be players & spectators alike. Since Futrell is local to the area, it is quite possible he had friends and family there that other players do not have. In years past there were more players than spectators during the week but by Fri night the stands filled up quite nicely for the rest of the event. As with anything (not just pool) you will have fewer people there during the week when most people have to get up and go to work the next day. Gate sales go up on the weekend because not as many people have to get up and go to work the following day.

I was told that the amateur event for this year was canceled 4 days prior to the start of the event. Hopefully there aren't too many people that had to take a loss on airfare & hotel reservations due to the short notice.

Thats too bad about the amateur event getting canceled. I was thinking that it was going on and a lot of the amateurs were filling the stands throughout the week and that is how there were large crowds.

Hopefully ticket sales go well starting today and grandstands get packed for the rest of the event.

Thank you for the response.

WTF? First they say Immonen - Lo Li-Wen is the TV match. Then they say that the match is moved because of scheduling. But now Immonen and Lo Li-Wen do play, but on NOT the TV table. What's up with that?!
