Brand Sites vs Product Sites options

I am just wondering why, if you got to a Brand site, the options are more limited than if you go to a product site? I can understand tip options vary, but why is it that you go to a brand site and the weight options have fewer choices that the product sites?

I think you many need to clarify. Are you speaking about cues only?

Is a brand site the name-brand home, like predatorcues.com and a product site a catalog like pooldawg.com?

Can you cite specific examples, and provide links?

Sure. We'll use mezz as an example. http://mezzusa.com/

Click on Break cues and go to the Mezz PBII. You get 2 choices for weight and 3 choices for color of the butt.

http://www.pooldawg.com/product/mezz-zzpb2-power-break-ii-pool-cue-stick

You get 5 weight options and 5 tip options, but only 1 color.

http://www.seyberts.com/products/Mezz_ZZPB2_Break_Jump_Cue-100800-10149.html

You get 7 weight options, no tip options, and only 1 color

http://www.ozonebilliards.com/mecubrcuepob.html

4 weight options and engraving options.

Now i'm not trying to knock any companies. I'm just wondering why the product sites have so many more options than the home brand sites.

Hypothetically speaking, where would I got if I wanted a 21oz PBII that was blue and had a sonic or samsara tip?

Again I'm not trying to bag on anyone I'm just wondering why brand sites have so few weight options compared to product sites. I understand the reasoning for limited tip options.

Because everyone is not on the same page regarding what models, options, accessories, upgrades, etc....that are offered.

A store such as a car dealer may offer more options than the manufacturer of the car. Those extra options are something that the dealer has cooked up to make them different than other dealers.

At Sterling Gaming for example we offer custom laser engraving because we own and operate our own high end laser engraver. So this is an option we can offer for most of the cues we carry that our competitors do not and can not.

Many "brand" sites also don't go to deep on options as they are really focusing on marketing more than direct sales. While some of them do sell direct to the consumer they mostly would prefer to have the sales happening through the stores rather than through them.

www.sterlingcue.com and www.sterlingcuecases.com are two examples of "brand" sites that do not sell to the consumer. We point the visitor to other "product" sites even if those sites may not carry ALL the models we show on our brand sites.

It's been awhile since I carried Mezz products because as of a few years ago the demand was fairly low, and I had to buy from wholesalers rather than direct from the manufacturer, which I don't like to do, but I think I can answer your questions.

Regarding MezzUSA.com, I'm not 100% certain that is a manufacturers website, but if it is I'm puzzled as to why only 19 and 19.5 oz are options. I would assume (and again, I'm not very knowledgeable about Mezz) that it can be weighted +/- at least a couple of ounces.

Regarding PoolDagwg. The only PBII offered by Cuestix is the black / coco one shown on PoolDawg, and the weight options available on PoolDawg are the same ones offered on Cuestix' website. PoolDawg is offering tip changes, they are not factory tip changes.

Regarding Seyberts, I'm sure it's the same scenario. They probably buy from another wholesaler who only offers the black version.

Regarding Ozone, again buying from a wholesaler who only offers the black one. They show 18, 19, 20 and 21 oz because they don't really know what weight that cue can be made so they just go with the default weight options. They offer engraving because they have engraving capabilities themselves. That is not a factory option.

Hope that helps...

Thanks. I'm just surprised by how limited the options are on the site and how many there are on other sites. Not just for mezz, but for other sites as well.

Thanks for all the input
