If you are buying a table, I would say no.

If you are building a table, maybe. MDF bonded to 1/8" steel 2x2 square tubing has no choice but to obey the steel. So if the steel is reasonably closely spaced, you can get a pretty honest seamless surface. However, building a table like this is no cheaper than a used bar box, which is probably a better option for the great majority.

If it's mainly going to end up being a clothes folding station, get the MDF. If you are planning on actually playing pool on it, get the slate.;)
Thats funny, i think my table has seen its share of cloths.Good thing its slate, mdf table might of warped.

Thanks for all the info .

You ever seen the novelty tables the right angle and the Z shaped table? I talked to the guy that built those a few years back a cabinet maker from Wisconsin if I remember correctly he used MDF covered with 1/4 plexiglass for the bed. The rest of the table was pretty solidly built. They played pretty true as I recall jumped balls pretty good too. But it was also pretty well built not like other tables that use MDF. I you want quality then slate is the way to go.

The clothes part is very true. I was given a table years ago with a "MDF" bed. The previous owners had it in their garage using it as a transfer station for the wet clothes going out to the line. It sank down in the middle and was like playing on a giant soup bowl. The best way to make a ball was to hit it so hard that it wouldn't come in contact with the felt. :D
