Where to play in St. Catharines????

As of Feb I will be moving to St Catharines.

I was just wondering what the pool scene is like in the area....

Our place is right by the Pen Centre and is literally a stones throw from Pendale Billiards, but they don't have leagues or tournaments.


1. What kind of leagues operate in this area VNEA,BCA,CPA,CCS???
2. Where are the local weekly, monthly or other tournaments???
3. Where are the best poolhalls in the area.

Ok, I'll add my little insight.

I played once down that way at a place called "In the Corner" (I think) It was half laundry mat, half pool hall. Had a couple gold crowns, couple barbox, couple snooker tables. The best part was during a set when a kid came in to find their parents screaming at the top of his lungs, you see, the parents used the laundry mat as a babysitter while they had a few drinks during the wash cycle.

I dont think they have many leagues there but I do know the league operator for CPA from our region also owns the rights to St Kitts and Niagara.

Hopefully Scott or Nello can chime in. I know Randy Fawcett, Rod Arsenault (sp), Jeff Robson, Scott McDonald and Chris Orme all play out that way.

The pool scene has gone into the sewer(get it):smile:,and most of the pool population in leagues are more concerned with getting drunk than playing pool,thats why I don't play in them.St Catharines is such an inconsistent city when it comes to pool.Years back the leagues were pretty good till the guy running it stole all the money.This happened on 2 ocassions by 2 different people.Since that time its been in the toilet.LeScratch thought a few times on investing in a poolhall down here but got real smart and saved there money.My advice is move to Toronto were the pool action is good and the people aren't as lame;)I do live in St Catharines,but born and raised in T.O.Trust me stay away!

Then agains I agree if it going to be the shits.I rather stay in Edmonton,Alberta where we still have pool action and leagues.Besides I was raised in the west anyway.If i were goin to move to Ontario,I rather live in T.O.,or Ottawa,but not a shit hole like St Catherns.

scsuxci...let the past go man, it will only make you old and bitter and jaded...like me ;) The league scene here is the pits..I totally agree...but just play the game for the love of it, I do...I know I'm a hack player, not in the league of so many good players here, but I at least love to play and enjoy it...you are too good a player to keep your anger of the past getting the best of you. Any Sunday you want to shoot some racks...just to enjoy the game...I can be there at least for the next two months. Lemme know.

Its the ebony one....scsuxci gave me the choice, and I liked the hit of the ebony one just a wee bit more. Its being well taken care of.

If I'm not mistaken Koko's has 2 tables maybe 1.The place is nice to drink from what I've heard but as far as pool you,ve got a few League players but thats about it.Leagues have been in the tubes for about the last 10years.You've always have 1or2 teams that are so stacked that the other teams don't even want to show up do to embarassment.If somebody had the time and was 100% honest then maybe things could start up again,but I doubt it.Most guys that I knew went to Poker and lost more money quicker than they did on the pool table.The one thing I do know that if you go to Coco's have a drink with the owner,he'll provide you with all the entertainment you need.I'd go in there but besides him and maybe 2 other guys,I can't stand the rest of them for along period of time.Takecare

Hey buddy,hope your doing well.I'm not bitter,just honest:)I do love the game thats probably why I feel the way I do when it comes to the politics of pool.People have to just have fun but still care about the game.I'm just a loner by heart but I do enjoy the company of very few that I trust.I've got a event this weekend in T.O but next weekend I'm open for whatever day is good for you.Glad you still love the cue!Get back to me,Takecare:smile:
 
Hey scsuxci....Didnt actually accuse you of being bitter...just warning you, that you could become bitter like me...hahahaha. I think next Sunday would be good for a few hours in the afternoon, if you can stand the lack of competition. Hope this weekend turns out good for you.

I will know better later on in the week, and I appologize up front for high-jacking this thread....after all the poster did ask where to play in the area.

Meximan2469...if you want some stiff competion...look for a guy who has a ZZ-TOP beard at "In The Corner" he will give you a run for your money. ;)

They have two tables, but a bunch of the players play in leagues, that is why i told him to go there. just to get his beak wet.
