i have a really nice 4 point cue. i know it isnt overseas junk because the craftsmanship is superb. it has maple windows with stitch like rings above and below. white non ivory buttcap. older reddish brown bumper with small allen screw the screws into the weight bolt. sharp dead even points with 4 nice veneers. has some block ring work with white rings above and below blocks. thats at the joint and on both shafts. shafts have ivory ferruls. ss joint piloted looks like 5/16-18.. shafts have a brass insert with a small pilot.
Anyone have any suggestions on value?

Looks like a 68 to 72 joss. Probably refinished and lost the logo. Also Richard black made these type of designs but his joint ringwork would have been different.

joss is actually one of the makers a local collector thought too. he also suggested sending pics to billy stroud. possibly jw made in mid 80s when he didnt mark cues with special order joint.. the suspense...lol... picked up for a cpl hundred...

I've never seen a Joss West with 18 threads.
My 68 and 71 Joss had 18 threads

Danny Janes would probably be a better choice.

I would say a Joss. I had a few with the 18 thread for around the early 70's. I know you will not want to do this but under the wrap there is certain to be something written. I once re wrapped a cue and found my name under the wrap. It was a Joss I had owned like 35 years earlier and it was made for me custom I had long forgotten..

I'm pretty convinced this is an early joss now. There is a photo of a cue almost identical listed as a 73. Ive also read some of his cues were unmarked. Also I've had alot of pm's about selling it. Any idea of a fair asking peice? Cue is pristine shape.

Someone else may have to confirm this but when they were together they had their own customers. You may want to find out who actually made it and it could have a effect on the value. If Stroud made it and can confirm it I would say it may ave a premium value. I sold one like you have about three years ago on ebay and got $2300.00. I was happy with the price at the time.

Hi, I'm pretty sure your cue is a 68-72 Joss. I have owned a similar one for many years. Mine has different color veneers and a 1/4-10 ivory joint. The rest is identical. Mine does say "Joss" on the buttcap though. I have another Joss of similar vintage with a joint that looks like yours (ss), and I think it is a 5/16-14 thread.

At one point in the very early 70's they didnt mark them at all. I believe it was right after Bill left.
This is definitely a Joss from 68 to 78. Best person to ask is Dan Janes.
Send him an email with the pics you have, he normally gets back to you the same day.

Hope this helps

Travel through Time with Danny Janes on His website!!

Tim Scruggs did help out after Bill left- they had so-many orders the cues were not engraved. Mike Segal did get his cue training from the Joss shop. I was on Dan Janes wedsite last night. It has a great trip down Memory lane-very cool stuff!! Mark

Brain fade again--my ivory joint Joss is a 3/8-10 thread. Bill Stroud told me they only made a few with that thread, because McDermott shafts would screw on.

That is some freaky stuff right there.
