DCC 2011 Trip Report

More thanks...

Thanks Lou, for those of us who would like to be there but aren't lucky enough. It's on our "bucket list".
It is really nice to hear about it through the eyes (and heart) of a player.

Good report as usual Lou.

So I guess we'll see you down in San Leon, TX week after next?

Thanks for the report, it is quite interesting to see Shannon Murphy doing well, I remember seeing him play in Ohio years back and gambling with members of his entourage. His game must have really picked up for him to be able to do so much damage.

You're welcome, henho. It's the first time I've seen him play and was pretty impressed. Of course it didn't help my cause to blow position so often, but that's the way it went.

Nice post sir, I had the same thoughts on the tables , although I never thought about what a big difference the balls would make .
Just over running a couple of shots a match is usually fatal against a large portion of the players there.

Thanks, bookcollector. You know I had never thought of it either. I think I've always been aware of the difference in CBs, but really it's the whole set. Repeatedly, I beat the other guy to the shot and then with a chance to get some, would blow it after one or two shots. Damnit.

Thanks Lou, I really did enjoy the read, I felt like I was right there with ya!, sure gave me a feel of what a DCC event would be like and also brought back memories of other tournaments, am looking forward to reading your posts of more events.

Thanks, David. Another coming in May.

With everyone else... Great write-up, Lou. I have the DCC on my "to do" list, but couldn't make it this year. Hopefully next year.

I've always heard that Diamonds play quite different than any GC, and it wasn't until just a few weeks ago that I finally got to play on one. And man, you are right. Slick, fast cloth, clean balls and short-banks make a *HUGE* difference in the game. Luckily for me, I was playing 9-ball on it; I can't imagine trying to play 1P on such a foreign table. Problem is there's almost no Diamond 9 footers around here; as I'm sure you know, being from the same area.

Thanks, Johnny.

There used to be a Diamond up north at Just One More, but Gene went bust. There's a private Diamond owned by an AZ'r across the river -- maybe he'll chirp and invite you to play. And there's another one at a room you may happen to frequent, but from what I've been told by several of the regulars they've totally ruined the table and it doesn't play anything like a real Diamond. So it is slim pickins around here. I've thought of doing what a writer friend of mine up in Michigan has done and just rent an office-sized space in an industrial zoned part of town (low rent, no noise issues) and put a Diamond in. Probably would break even on the table time vs rent.
