Now that the USPPA is dead, I have been thinking about how a pool league for Northern California could be put together that had even matches, discouraged sand bagging and created excitement. When the tournaments were held in Reno and around, they were fun. There were obvious drawbacks. One, too many people arranged to keep averages low to cash in bigger tournaments. Second, an annual fee was an outrage. A one time start up would be sufficient. I think about A, B, C, levels but that's not enough. In those ABC's there should be 1,2,3. Since this is a handicap system, no touring pros would be allowed to participate. This would be for every day sluggers. To try to make sure there was equality of players, a system of dividing areas could be devised. Redding area, Sac area, Stockton and so on. Each area would have a list of players who have joined and they would be rated by the local group and then voted on by a more general group. Let's say Baby Frank would be rated an B-2 and Amar an A-3 by their local group. 1 would be the highest rating. Myself, I look at these two at two of the top players. Frank an A-2 and Amar an A-1. Spot? Frank gets the breaks or the first break. Since I am snowed in, I have too much time to think. More than anything, I would like the excitement of the old monthly tournaments back. One other thing. Repeated winning not allowed. Win one big monthly tournament, you sit out one month. At the end of a year, all the top finishers of each tournament play for a yearly top dog. Jeff, as a road professional, you're automatically an A/1. You spot everyone. I ll try to get back for this months bank tournament at Ca Billiards.
