Here's a great video demonstrating some great kicking skills, being traded between two players (called a "snooker fight" in snooker circles). Even though in snooker, you merely have to make contact with the object ball, and not have to "get a rail afterwards" like in pool, the fact that these players can even hit the ball at the distances and the number of rails to do so, demonstrates some great kicking skills.

Keep in mind, there's no diamond markers (and thus no diamond system) on a snooker table. It's all visualization of the angles, at great distances (12-foot x 6-foot table).

Enjoy!

Thanx for the post Sean

I cheer for Selby every spring to win the World.

But if I was betting on Selby this match I would not have been happy.
When there is a red ball on the table each snooker is a potential 15 point
loss....if you hit the 7 ball and leave a free ball.

So he failed to respect that by not rolling the red over a hole..had a few
chances to do that. When the red is near a hole it's difficult to play a
snooker. He also left the red at the wrong end of the table more than once.At his level you'd think he would know where the 'hook territory' is.

I have seen top players need a snooker and not get to play one for quite
a few turns because his opponent gave him zero chances to.

Makes me respect tough 1-pocket players even more.
Some of these young snooker stars haven't been far enough from home
...and betting enough money.

The score was Selby 70 - King 20
Difference 50
Red and colours left - maximum 35 points
A free ball could have increased this to 43
Don't think Selby would have been worried if King potted the red :D
So leaving the red near a pocket is good strategy.

Some pool players haven't been far enough from home to learn the games that can earn them big money without risking their own :D

THIS is a very good point.
They are playing a game that can make you a millionaire.
But I'm still disappointed some times at their choice of shots.
Snooker is a war game..like chess or backgammon.
Can't picture Spasky or Magreil making loose decisions in the end game.
They leave their opponents no 'jokers'.

Years ago a game was made in Arlington Virginia.
A dominant pro payed a back-room money player for a lot of $$$.
My old friend Pittsburgh John bet on the money player against the advice
of his friends. He figured money players are tougher.
He won big taking Buddy Hall over King James.

My heart always cheers for the lone wolf....
..although it is true that often a well-fed and well-rested domestic
dog may be the favorite in the fight.
