What shaft/butt combo do you like?

I was talking with a friend the other night about new shafts. He was telling me it's not as easy as buying a new LD shaft and putting it on, he was saying some shafts play better on some butts.

If there is any truth to this I'd like to know what shaft/butt combo you guys prefer for hit, feel and playability?

Butt/shaft combination definately affect the hit and feel. I think one of the most popular choice would be Schon butt with Pred Shaft

Wood shaft, wood butt. Should be a piece of leather on one end, preferably the skinny end, should be a piece of metal or two to hold the two pieces together.

Lol, you forgot it needs to be fairly straight

Shaft/butt

I agree with Schon butt with a Predator shaft. I prefer the Z2 but the 314 2nd gen is nice on those days where you're a little off.

There is a difference. I just made a shaft for a friend to go on a McD butt and it definitely doesn't hit the same as if I made the entire cue.

If you have some guys at the pool hall who will let you give their cue a test run, you could probably get a few cues with the same thread and give it a whirl.

A friend of mine (he's on here, but can't remember his name) has went through a couple Predators and an OB1 with a combination of Lucasi and predator butts. The only ill-advised combo that he ever came up with was the OB1 with a wood to wood joint. The hit was so absolutely muted, like hitting a tennis ball rather than a cue ball. Same shaft/same tip with a unilock into a steel joint hit fine, though softer than the stock shaft.

I had myself at one time a Players sneaky butt with a Z shaft and liked it alot. Had to put it down after moving to a new bar to play league though, due to having very fast cloth. My stroke was starting to come back to me, and couldn't keep control of the cue ball to save my life. Loved it as a break cue from then on.

If I learned anything from messing with LD shafts is that there is a learning curve getting used to the cue. As long a the cue's hit/feedback is familiar, everthing else will fall into place eventually.

My Shaft and JLO's butt.. match made in heaven

shaft/butt

I use a McDermott butt, McDermott I2 shaft which amounts to 18.5 ounces which is the best playing combination that I have ever owned, different strokes for different flolks.

Thanks,
