Break cue conversion questions

I recently bought a Prather SP to use as a break cue. As expected it hits very solid although the tip is a bit soft for breaking. I plan to put a Samsara tip on it soon. My questions are: would it help any to use a phenolic ferrule instead of the standard ferrule that came on it? Could the shaft receive unintended damage by adding this tip/ferrule combination? The shaft is 13mm and has a 3/8 x 1" joint with Phenolic collars. The brass(?) joint threads into wood in the shaft. Thank you in advance for your help. Also thanks to all the break cue offers from fellow AZers and to neilhin on here for the beautiful cue.

I doubt you would notice a difference. The drawback would be taking off a perfectly usable ferrule.
 
The way I've been seeing some they put a piece of phenolic on top of the ferrule and the Samsara on top of that.

My Jacoby Edge is like this and it hits a ton.
 
Any other thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Having the work done this weekend and am really curious about a direction to go. Thanks in advance.
 
I had an older junky McDermot Nitro cue converted. Had a carbon fiber pad put on and a super hardlayered tip put on. Works ok, but I have an original Gulyassie Sledgehammer. You can feel the difference in power with the break cue. My Nitro works well enough. I just noticed a bit of softness when slamming the CB. You're Prather may be made of sterner stuff. Mine is only a 40 buck Chiwan junker. I'm going to have a break shaft made for a Heubler sneakey I have later this year. Good luck with you're Prather.

Thanks Mark. It seems to have a pretty solid hit already with a softer tip on it. The tip came a little mushroomed and I was going to replace with Samsara anyway. Thanks for your input. Happy Shooting....
