With this years Canadian Champs just days away I thought it would be a good
to post something so we can keep one an other updated on the progress of the snooker/pool!

Looks like this years tournament will be without Alain Robidoux and Jeff Kennedy that i know how. They will be missed this year. But the Return of Kristal "Cookie" Macleod after a few years will be great for fans as his playing style is great to watch. (he will be playing in the 50+)

Also from Alberta Warren Shaffell who is also playing in the +50s and along with Cookie would be 1 of my 2 picks to take that.

Another Alberta Player who is a staple at the Canadians is Tom Finstad who will be going to play in the Open Snooker. I had the plessure of playing Tom a week ago and from what I can tell anyone is that he is playing some of the best snooker I have seen in my life. He had told me before we started that he was playing well and that in the past 2 weeks he has had 7 147 breaks.

Well not to my surprise the first game we played he made a pink and 14 blacks for a 146, and then 3 games later he make a 147 that was picture prefrect. He also had runs of 127,128,121,112,97,93,87, and 5 or so 70+ breaks or something along them lines. It was one of the best performances I have seen in a long time. SO with that said Im picking Tom to take this years open snooker.

Anyone else have anyone thoughts?

Wow, how long a session were you playing? A couple weeks ago I made two consecutive centuries and thought I had done something special lol. Oh well, back to the practice table for Cameron.

The Canadian Championships NEEDS to be streamed in some way. It's ridiculous that it's not. It frusterates me all the things that are wrong with the event and everything that could be done with little effort. I mean, they put only put on ONE event a year, you'd think it'd be more polished. I understand they are all volunteers, but when I was volunteering at a small museum as a historian, I still performed as if I was being payed for my services.

Having played a fair amount with Tom, I would guess that the session wasn't as long as you think. Once he finds his groove he runs the balls pretty quickly and a century doesn't take him long at all. I've been on the receiving end of one of his 147s years ago and I think it took a whole 6 or 7 minutes....learned my lesson about not hiding the white off the break that game ;-)

I suddenly feel the urge to play 9 ball. lol

Shooters doesn't seem to have a web site ....
I'm a techno-idiot, but that would seem to be a prerequisite to streaming matches. :D

All they need is ustream I would think. But the onus should be on the CBSA anyhow. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you really just need a video camera and an internet connection?

I personally know someone who owns a video camera, I also know one or two people who have internet connections. Surely there is someone who will be around the tournament who keep similar company to me. But I suspect the pool room would already have a connection.

You're asking the CBSA to do something modern and technologically advanced? They just discovered fire and are still working on the wheel.

Most useless billiard association ever....

It's pretty deflating. I remember when the Canadian Championships were in Ottawa being held at the Super Ex. I thought it was the perfect venue to get exposure to non-playing masses. It was housed in an building with no signs indicating that there was in fact anything happening there. Later on they did add a "predator" banner, which doesn't mean a thing to the general public. There should have been an effort to display the rules of the games being contested in order to accomodate newbies, but that was no where in sight. I was so dissapointed, as specatator I felt like an afterthought. The scores were barely visible making snooker games hard to follow.

I could go on and on. The most frusterating aspect of it, these gripes could be satiated without spending more than $10.

well first of all this years Canadian championships are being live streamed at www.cbsa.ca and its also the return of Alex "the lion " Pagulayan who will be playing in the open snooker event. I was with him yesterday at shooters and hes running 100s in his sleep asked him when was the last time he played snooker and in his classic Alex ways said its my first time ha ha. This years events will be like none other with players like Alex, John Morra, Jason Klatt, Martell and the rest of canada's best will be one to watch so come out to Shooters and watch Canadas best. It would be nice to see the media in Canada get behind this great event . Good luck to all ..
