Can I get a little advice from other room owners?

Re New Room

Layout is nice. Do you have plans to do a kitchen? Liquor is where you will make your money!!!!!!!! Food is a great draw to get people who don't play pool into your place. Do not get a Commercial account for Direct or dish!!! PPV will cost you $70 at home vs $1,800 or more based on your fire occupancy. Get with BCA and they can help you save $$ with coke and credit card processing fees. Have a plan for the summer months as your revenue will drop.

Unless you want to be sued by UFC, Boxing, or any PPV for $15,000 to $100,000 you do not want to bring your home PPV to your business. I have many business owners in our area and around the country who have been nailed by showing a fight or UFC. They have paid people that go out to businesses to check when these fights are on.

It sounds like a great idea (I was going to try it)but when you see a guy get sued for a $100,000 for showing 50 people the PPV it changes your mind in a hurry!

Good luck with your room!

Definitely avoid the PPV bait and switch. Known several bar owners that cost them $15K and higher. Once they catch you once you are on the radar forever.

Cable will charge you more for tv also. But is sometimes more negotiable. We had our cable provider raise our ESPN to $300 a month so we cancelled it. They then came back and lowered it to $45 a month. Depends on how bad they want your business. They will try and get you for a lot. But doing illegal things is only good if you have big pockets of thousand dollar bills you dont want anymore.

Wow that's a big fine!!!!! I have a regular who wants me to order the UFC so I called and found that it was way too expensive for me. I told him I couldn't do it and he gave me the idea to cancel my commercial account with dish and do a home account with them from my business. I was unable to cancel because I am locked in for a few more months under my agreement with dish. I'm glad I didn't do it and thanks for the heads up.

Mort,

I am glad you didnt make the switch. By the way these days almost everyone has a HD tv at home and customers have figured out that it is cheaper to call a few friends over with beer and have the PPV at home. Its not like it used to be with people coming to the local watering hole to watch football, or fights and so on.

Plus these idiot cable companies have priced business out of business when it comes to sports. My occupancy limit is 675 and I offered my cable supplier that if he could get me 675 customers to come in and watch an event then I would be happy to give them 10,000 for an event. I never heard from them again.
