Let's Boycott the ABP and their affiliates

All this talk about boycotting by the ABP and their attitude has got me thinking....I am boycotting these players and their sponsors.

I will not buy anything they are promoting. I hope the sponsors excercise caution when picking a spokesman. We, at AZB, are the people of pool, we buy all these overpriced crap.

There are a lot of guys in my local room that can easily replace these guys and they wouldn't mind being the next US Open Champion.

Don't complain about being paid late....at least the US Open gives you the oppurtunity to get paid.

Like you, I am very frustrated at their attitude as well and I am aware of your frustration.

ABP needs to be promoting the game, not boycotting. It would help everyone's bottom line. This boycott reminds of the AZB threads about what's wrong with pool.

I agree. The APB are not athletes who brings in billions of dollars to their respective organizations.

Yet, they are demanding things.

If anything this boycott proves is that the APB can't draw. Monster truck drivers and cowboys draw more money than they do.

there's a saying about cutting your nose to spite your face. While I understand the APB's point, it would seem that the last thing they should want to do is harm an event. If there was money to be paid, and it was not, that would be one thing, but the players and the promoters are in this boat together. Boycotting the US Open harms professional pool, and with the present state of affairs with professional pool here, the professionals may see the day where if they want any kind of payday, they'll have to go overseas to get it. Remember, every action has a reaction, and the reaction from this boycott doesn't look good. Why would a promoter have a tournament when besides the normal headaches, they have to worry about this stuff? Obviously the players want to have assurances, don't we all. the only assurances anyone can have is to see if promises have been kept in the past. From the outside looking in, it appears Mr. Behrman has made good on his promises at his own expense. It says a great deal about Mr. Behrman that he has promised not to cut the payout, even when it is financially difficult. He is taking the biggest risk of all. Where are his assurances?

The show must go on and Mr. Behrman has been doing this for quite a long time now, from what I have read. That is saying a lot and even in these difficult times.

He doesn't need to do what he's been doing but he still does. The APB proved that they are not a top draw. They don't draw as much as they think they do....but they want money.

Also, if someone has a list of sponsors and products the APB players are promoting. Please list them here...we should start by not buying any of these products.

I hope these sponsors are listening and we amateurs...lol...can stop spending our money.

I will upadate this post as we go on.

are you daft? those are some of the greatest pool players alive. for years everyone has agreed that the male pros needed an organization. now they have one. and you want to boycott the players? every year behrman says the players will get paid right away and it doesnt happen. now the players want proof of funds. not unreasonable. thats what a player union is for. every person on this forum should be 100 percent behind the players.

WTF is this?

This has to be the most ignorant post ever written on this Forum. are you serious? All these players want is to be paid on time for their work.
If you lived paycheck to paycheck would you do a job and be ok with getting paid 3,6, or 9 months down the road?.......So what if Barry has been running this event for a million years, so he pays them Eventually, I guess in this society that's acceptable?.......Gimme a break!!!

The players don't owe him anything.....Remember, the event is nothing without the big names.....it's the only reason the majority of fans go there.

Everyone has the right to get paid ON TIME for their work.....Period!

Correction.....

The above was the most ignorant post

If you lived paycheck to paycheck and counted on gambling wins...would you consider that person smart? No. While billiards is a game of skill, you can have a few bad rolls against anybody and end up losing the set.

Nobody on that list is gaurenteed money.

Your acting like they were not paid at all. They were given money to cover expenses and the balance was paid after a short time. Sounds like there should not be a problem.

The players owe Barry everything. If he hadnt kept putting on the tourney for 35 years, even while losing money. They would not have the venue.

The Majority of fans? There are not that many fans. I dont know what your thinking of. I bet the Durham Bulls sell more tickets to any one of their games than the US Open has during all 7 days. And they are just a minor league team. Billiards is not really a spectator sport yet.

The ABP wants to better the sport for the "Pros". Do you know what seeding tourneys will do amatures and shortstops everywhere? No. You are so blinded by propaganda that you spew forth gobs of fecal matter without thinking.....

While I agree there needs to be a players org, this was not the way to do it. And if you are going to make a players org, make sure it benefits ALL players of cuesports. Not just the "pros"

Is this for real?..............Nah....can't be. This isn't even worth my time.

Obviously it is...you posted....

Come on big boy, try and use logic to refute my claims. Its been a while since I had a good debate.

By the way, since you seem to know so much, do you have factual proof that Barry has been losing money with the Open for 35 years?

I don't know of any business that loses money for 35 years and is still able to operate?

as a business man, which you are obviously not, would it make sense to operate a business that generates no profit for that long? .................ummmmm.....don't worry.....I'll wait!

I agree this is absurd , first if thinking that they make little difference and lets all boycott, then what difference would it really make. They are trying to make a sport with no real professionalism responsible for their payouts. Barry Berman Has done a great job in putting the Open together for 35 years..you don't do something that long unless you have a true love for it..I understand his position...but you must think about what it cost these players just to make the trip. The expense for a week of hotels and food, not to mention travel which is outrageous...They have EVERY right to want change... For those who wish to boycott something other than this players ...try the gas pumps...

Thank you Falcon.....I was starting to think that common sense had left the building

Barry's only business venture is not the US Open. He owns a very profitable pool room. However, the statement of losses came directly from Barry himself.

Capital invested from the Bar makes up the losses the Open. While he does not always cover expenses, he will not go broke simply because of other investments.

I never said he lost money every year. Some times hes up some times not, some times he breaks even.

Please. your gonna have to do better than that....

Sarcasm is the tool of someone whom has no intelligent argument.

You have convictions strong enfough to make you call someone else ignorant, but you fail to address them in open forum when given a chance.

This leads to the appearance that you are only going on popular opinion. Which bespeaks ignorance on your part
