6 Pocket League

I've tried the format, privately. The league itself isn't in my area, that I know of, but I haven't checked in some time.
If you do a search, you'll find a few threads about it but not much.
They asked when they were first getting started if I was interested in getting the league started in this area. At the time I couldn't do it and I'm afraid there is just too much interest in bar table play here, mostly apa and bca. I think you can play Six Pocket on a bar table but getting league members interested in anything new or different is like pulling teeth.
You'll find that a lot of people here stick their nose up at it, say it's too easy, etc. I doubt any of them have tried it in actual league competition, however.
I was a part of something similar a good many years ago, and in competition even good players didn't do as well as they expected.

where did you hear about this league im in your area?

It was introduced to me in Jan. of this year by a very good friend of mine in Bama. For several months I played it at a local friends residence here (which was fine with the powers of 6 Pocket) until I could make the right connection here in a pool room. Once I introduced it to the local room I play at, the owner really liked it and in essence immediately wanted to start up a league.
We became GA's test market and now that we are finishing up our first session, we are moving forward. Another nearby room is now interested and if they can get their minimum number of start up players, they will launch on or around the week of Labor Day.

Can you send me a PM with the name of your local room and perhaps you and I can get together and I'll introduce you to it. Realizing that I'm new to the forum, that may be asking a lot but I'm pretty trustworthy. I'll be going to a couple of rooms in the ATL area this coming Friday. I'll be glad to send you my number if you'd like the introduction.

Pushout,

To my knowledge, I don't think it is in your area as well. I do know all too well the challenge of getting league members to try anything new but fortunately there are some here that are tired of the same old 8 ball and 9 ball formats and actually looked forward to something new.

As for playing in bars, I'm not sure if the owners are willing to open the tables as part of the rules state that if you scratch on the break and another ball pots, you must spot that/those balls.

My question to you is did you enjoy it at all?

Yes, you are correct in that the similar comp you played some time ago was an ego bruiser, the same goes with this game.

I started with 18 players, grew to 25, then down to 16 because those 9 just couldn't believe that they were not as good as they thought they were.

If you think someone would like to give it a try up there, just let me know and I can make the trip or put you in touch with someone you can discuss it with. Just let me know.

Yeah, I did, and so did the few people I introduced it to. At my home on my Olhausen. I haven't ventured out much the last few years for various reasons. There is no actual pool room in this area at the moment, though there is a rumor that a very well known player is eventually going to open one. I'm on speaking terms with the player and if he does open a place I'll speak to him about it. I personally don't think it would go well on bar tables just as Straight Pool doesn't.

I play 6 pocket at a good friends house once a month. It's really a fun game! I had to miss this month due to work.

Pushout,

I totally agree that I doubt it will take off in a bar box room and since you have no room there to play it in, there still may be a way to get you and your friends involved in it on an official level if you are interested until a room can open up for you all. It was intro'd to me and then I began playing at a friend's home and all he had to do is watch me shoot and sign my score card. It wasn't until after I became comfortable enough with it and some rule changes that 6 Pocket changed that I intro'd it to my local venue.

To Pushout and Palmetto,

It's really good to know that you enjoy the format. The analogy I use for this game is that it was always told to me that country music was music to slit your wrists by. I think that 6 Pocket is a pool game where the same analogy can be used (humorously only of course) LOL.

I do think the game has tremendous potential and would love to see it expand. What's my stake in this? Absolutely nothing other than there is something new out there that is challenging and refreshing yet irritating too if you get a zero or minus 1. LOL. Or in some cases a minus 6 for a frame.

If I can be any help to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks for everyone's responses thus far.
