WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GO ABOUT IT?
MY STAY IN THE HOSPITAL HAS BEEN EXTENDED, I WAS SUPPOSED TO GET OUT IN A WEEK AND A HALF, UNFORTUNATELY, I AM GOING TO BE IN THE HOSPITAL FOR ANOTHER 10 WEEKS.
I HAVE TO COME UP WITH JUST OVER, $7,000 TO PAY FOR THE ENDING OF MY TREATMENT TO GET RID OF A MASSIVE BONE INFECTION THAT HAS ISSOLATED ME IN THE HOSPITAL WHILE THEY TRY TO GET RID OF THIS 'MERSA--STAPH-AUREUS INFECTION' THEY HAVE ALREADY TAKEN MY RIGHT HIP OUT, SO I CAN'T WALK AND HAVE LIMITED MOBILITY.

SO, ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED ON HOW THE EASIEST WAY TO SELL 50+ USED CUES, MOST ARE IN VERY NICE TO EXCELLENT CONDITION, ALSO, I HAVE ABOUT 30+ CUE CASES, SOME NEW MOST ARE USED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, I HAVE VIKING CASES, FELLINI CASES, HUEBLER CASES, PREDATOR LEATHER CASES, THOMAS CASES IN SUEDE, PORPER CASES, IMPERIAL CASES, ETC.
THE CUES ARE MOSTLY FROM THE 80'S AND EARLY 90'S, I DO HAVE SOME FIRST GENERATION HUEBLERS, MALI, VIKING, HELMSTETTERS,
ALSO HAVE, JOSS, MCDERMOTT, A NICE SELECTION OF CANADIAN 80'S AND 90'S HUSTLER OR PHANTOM SNEAKY-PETES ALL WITH WOOD TO WOOD JOINTS AND PINS IN THE SHAFTS AND BUTTS AND GREEN AND RED MAPLE LEAFS, LOTS OF OTHER CUES, DANNY STOUTS,
LOTS OF BOOKS AND ACCESSORIES FOR CUES AND PLAYING POOL,

ANY HELP OR INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED, LIKE I SAID I AM LIMITED IN MY MOBILITY, SO ANY INFO ON AN EASIER WAY OF MOVING THIS POOL STUFF WOULD BE HELPFUL, AFTER I PAY FOR THESE MEDICATIONS, I WILL KEEP THE REST AND START BUILDING MY COLLECTION IN THE FUTURE AFTER I GET OUT AND GET HEALTHY AGAIN.

PLEASE, PM ME OR E-MAIL ME @ MICHAELKENNEDY_1@YAHOO.COM

I'm in the auction business we could offer your cues at auction. Online bidding proxy bidding, live bidding. Were are you located? Thanks Toby Clemens (570) 847-7768

I 2nd the auction route. My wife and I have been going to auctions for years (mostly for antiques) and that is a great way to unload stuff.... Especially collections. Collectors will pay crazy money for stuff they want. I know a few that literally do not care what they spend when they really want something. An Auction House that also uses online bidding such AuctionZip or LiveAuctioneers gets you pretty much the best exposure and prices. Some items will sell under and some will sell over what they are worth. You just go by the overall average. Our favorite online auction is LiveAuctioneers

I went to an auction about a year ago that contained the stuff from 2 collectors, one collected Guns and the other Pool Cues. Some of the cues went somewhat cheap (no-name cues) but they weren't any deals on the big name sticks. They had 300+ cues there. I managed to get about a dozen but the Scruggs, Frye, Black, Schon, etc... I could have bought for the same price or cheaper on Ebay. Good for the seller not so much as a buyer.

A few warnings (or thoughts)
KNOW the rep of the Auction House you're using. Auctions can be a shady business. We have been to easily 1,000 auctions in the last couple years. Most houses are decent, a couple are downright crooks, and a few are just outstanding and honest. Check with the BBB, ask friends, etc.. If you live near Maryland I may be able point you to a couple.

Note what you pay for Sales Commission. Myself I wouldn't pay over 15%. The guy that I've always used for valuable items charges me 12% but he also comes to my house, loads everything, does the advertising, is known by all the dealers as being the most honest, pays promptly, etc... The better your collection/items the more wiggle room you have on this. If they know they'll make good money on the front end they may lower the comm. to get you in there.

Remember, you are 'supposed' to pay taxes on what you sell. I never have but thats another story. If you sell over $10k just have them cut you a couple checks. FYI, I heard the IRS now tracks deposits starting at $8k instead of the $10k its been for a long time. Not positive about that though but you might want to keep you're checks under $8k anyway.

You are generally NOT allowed to bid on your own stuff at the auction. Some of the shadier houses allow it but most don't. You don't really want to anyway. You'll pay them the Sellers Comm. AND the Buyers Comm. (also called the 'Sellers/Buyers Premium') AND Sales Tax!

You may be able to put a 'Reserve" or starting price on some items. Some places let you, other do not. Even the ones that do generally will not allow you to do it to every item, Remember they are there to make money and you're there to get it sold.

There are no guarantees. You may walk away with more than you expect and you may be disappointed. But one things is sure, all the stuff will be gone. I've been disappointed on a couple items we've sold but never on the entire sale. Some things they paid crazy money for. I generally know what the lot will bring so if the final hits within 10% of that I'm happy.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I hope you didnt think the cue auction they had in Maryland was well advertise. It was a good sale. I bought 25 cue there made money on everyone. You need to spend money on advertising in trade papers and the web to sell cues.

No, I don't think that auction was well advertised at all. Auctionzip is seen by a lot of people but mostly for Antiques and Real Estate. I also think they rushed the cues to auction and should have broken it up into 2 sales (I definitely would have). Shortly after the first ad hit AuctionZip someone contacted me and asked if I could help them figure out what all the cues were. Although I was interested in getting a firsthand look, I am far from any kind of expert. The guy they got did a fair job but there were a lot of unidentified cues. Not sure why they rushed it, maybe the owner's widow wanted it done quickly, who knows. I only knew one person working the sale and he was on the gun side and he didn't know anything more than the gossip I heard from the cue buyers.

If I remember right that was done by Big Tarp Auctions and they were fairly new auctioneers. That was the first time I had heard of them. And up until maybe a year ago, I was looking for upcoming auctions pretty much every day. They had, what, maybe 50 people at the cue sale and 20 or so serious buyers? Not a great turnout. There were a lot of deals to be had but not many on the ones by well known cuemakers. The only one I remember is a pink colored Schon sold cheap.

They should have advertised better, done 2 sales on consecutive weekends, not combined the gun sale and gotten someone in there that was a cue expert. There were a couple unmarked level 4/5 cues at the beginning I kicked myself for not bidding more.
